Today I’m sharing with you ‘3 ways to save money online’. These are ways that we have personally tried and tested and that we’ve used to help us save a big deposit for our first home. However, they can be used just in general, if you’re looking for clever ways to save money, while still leading a fun life.
Regular readers of Life Unexpected will know that we have been saving up for our first home for just over a year now. Excitingly we now have our whole deposit saved and we are about to apply for our mortgage. In fact, we have our sights set on our dream home, which right now is in the process of being built.
One thing that we really wanted to do when we started saving for our house, was to find clever ways of saving money so that we could still live our lives, have fun and not go without too much.
I did write a post detailing ‘10 Ways To Save Money‘, which includes our everyday list of how we managed to save the bulk of our deposit. But one thing I haven’t shared yet, is how we have saved a lot of money by using the power of the internet.
So without further ado, here are some of the tricks that we use in order to save money online.
3 Ways To Save Money Online
First and foremost is my absolute favourite way to save money online and it’s a tool that we’ve only been using for the last few months now.
Why I have never used voucher codes before, I don’t know. But, one of my new ultimate favourite websites is called ‘vouchercloud‘. I really wish that I’d found this website last year, but now that we have found it, we use it very regularly. In fact, we will even continue to use it after we buy a house because it’s fab!
If you’ve not heard of vouchercloud before, it’s a website that pulls together and shares the latest deals and exclusive offers from some of Europe’s leading retailers. They have both a website and an app for you to download. You can search both of these every single day for exclusive voucher codes and deals for online shopping.
We use the app often to save money, especially on days out and when we visit restaurants. But, we also use the website to save money on online purchases. For example, we’ve recently used it to save money on home entertainment services, such as NowTV and we’ve used it to save money at Argos, where we’ve recently shopped to buy presents for Evie’s birthday and where we’ve recently bought some things to update our garden, ready for the summer months.
You can also set alerts for your favourite stores so that you never miss a deal and so that you get notified every time an exclusive voucher code is available. Vouchercloud uploads new deals every single day, this week alone they have shared over 22,000 deals.
2. Comparison Websites
We have saved over £1000 on our house bills by using comparison websites. When I actually sat down to look at our house bills, I was shocked to see how much we were spending and also how much we could save just by switching a couple of providers.
I know that switching might seem a bit daunting at first, because it means finding all of the numbers of your providers and your accounts. But, at the end of the day I realised that losing a few hours in order for us to save £1000 was more than worth it.
3. Bulk Buy
One thing that has saved us a lot of money is ‘bulk buying’. I love to use websites such as Amazon and other discounted retailers to bulk buy things like dried foods, home cleaning products and even things like toilet rolls. If you have the space to store these items, I cannot recommend bulk buying enough. Usually buying in bulk is a lot cheaper than buying individual items. Another thing I really love to do is to try and bulk buy alongside using a voucher code, or alongside using a deal found on a website like vouchercloud.
So, there you have it, our favourite 3 ways to save money online. Just by using these three online tricks, we have been able to save a lot of money towards our house. We’d love it if you would share this post with your friends or if you could share it to Pinterest for us!
