5 Things To Do In Sydney With Kids
This list is by no means extensive but each one of these things caters for kids of all ages and is sure to keep your little ones occupied and happy for a long time.
1. Taronga Zoo
One of the most fun things to do in Sydney with kids is to visit Taronga Zoo.
Taronga Zoo is just 12 minutes from the city. You can reach the zoo by ferry. This in itself is a magical experience for kids and the ferry ride has breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour for adults to enjoy. When you’re at the zoo there is plenty to keep you occupied throughout the day.
There is always plenty happening at Taronga Zoo. There are animal experiences to try out, there are 20 keeper talks and shows a day and there over 4000 animals to see and learn about. Kids will love meeting the animals and you can easily spend an entire day here.

2. Visit Darling Harbour
Darling Harbour not only boasts striking views of the city and views of the most beautiful harbour, but it’s also home to plenty of family activities. You will be spoilt for choice of things to do in this area.
There is bowling, harbour cruises, an aquarium, shops, workshops for kids, playgrounds a plenty, Madame Tussauds, laser quest, the famous Powerhouse Museum (which is great for kids), cinemas, gardens and so much more! We recommend spending a couple of days exploring this area alone. It’s especially perfect for rainy days, or days when you need to escape the heat!
3. Chill Out At Sydney Beaches
It wouldn’t be a trip to Sydney without a family selfie on Sydney’s most famous beach: Bondi. Despite Bondi being stunningly beautiful, Sydney is also home to other beaches that are also super family friendly. Other beaches include Coogee Beach, Bronte Beach, Palm Beach and Manly Beach.
If you head to Palm Beach, you might even meet some of the cast of ‘Home And Away’, as this is where the famous soap opera is filmed! While you are on one of Sydney’s beaches, don’t forget to try your hand at watersports. Most beaches offer surfing lessons, paddle boarding, snorkelling and so much more.
4. Go Whale Watching
If you are visiting Sydney between May and November, why not take your family on a ‘Whale Watching’ cruise from Sydney Harbour? Cruises leave several times a day and last about 3 hours.
Whale Watching cruises are such a magical way to see whales in their natural environment. The most common species of whale you are likely to see in the Humpback Whale. These are typically found between May and November. Between July and September the Humpback whales are usually also joined by Southern Right whales, another species commonly sighted in this area. Whale Watching cruises are suitable for the whole family to enjoy and are sometimes even combined with breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea!
5. Visit The Royal Botanical Gardens
If you’re looking for a peaceful spot for a picnic or a big open space to visit with your kids, then we highly recommend a trip to the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens. There is plenty of space for kids to run about and the garden also has workshops and exhibitions that your kids will enjoy.
If their feet get tired there is also a land train that will give you a unique tour of the gardens. Perfect for keeping smaller kids excited!
