I’ve learnt in the last few months that I’m a much better person and a much calmer parent when I’ve had some mama ‘time out’ to recharge. I love spending all day with my daughter but as most of you know, being a mum is pretty full on, and sometimes a bad day and night with a toddler can leave you feeling completely exhausted and run down. I’m guessing I’m not alone in this? I think we all deserve a little pampering every now and again.

I often find that I struggle to get childcare that fits in around appointments, so I’ve come up with 5 ways to feel pampered when you can’t get a babysitter:

Mobile masseuse  You’ve just tucked your little ones into bed. They’re sound a sleep. Time to lie down on a couch with some relaxing music, essential oils and a massage. Sounds dreamy? Lots of masseuses from your favourite spas also freelance in the evenings and for a lot cheaper. Ask your favourite masseuse if she does freelance or google one. Some masseuses even do parties, so it’s a good excuse to get the girls around.

Host a girly night – Going out for dinner sometimes leaves me exhausted. Sometimes it’s just nice to call the girls around, put on face-masks, do your nails and watch a cheesy 90’s flick chick…you get my drift. If you can’t get a babysitter and you feel like you’re missing out on the wine, why not have some fun and make some mocktails. Here are some great recipes.

Try reflexology – I recently started having reflexology. If you’re not sure what that is then click here. Not only has it been helping my health, but it’s also given me some relaxing mama time. If you live in Cornwall then I can’t recommend Maria enough.

D.I.Y spa box – The next time you go shopping, buy a bath bomb, a face-mask and other things to make a spa kit. Leave it in a box for a time you really need it. I sometimes sneak a cheeky mini wine bottle in there, and a big bar of galaxy. If you’ve had a bad day or you’re feeling tired and overwhelmed from work, take some much needed time out. This will also make the perfect birthday present or a gift for a new mama.

Mobile hairdresser – Nothing beats going to a salon and getting a fresh new look, but the benefit of being at home is that you don’t have to leave the salon in foils and a towel if your little one starts playing up. See if your normal hairdresser will do a home visit, if not then there are loads of great mobile hairdressers out there. Ask around for recommendations.

If you’re one of the lucky ones who can get a babysitter, and you would rather get pampered elsewhere, then check out this sweet little babysitter box I made. It’ll give you peace of mind when you’re out and will make your babysitter feel looked after.

Would you do any of these? Have you tried anything else we should add to the list?

We’ve come to realise that we have so much more fun when we have friends round to ours, rather than going out – you’re so much more relaxed when you’re not rushing to get home. I don’t know what I would do without my mobile hairdresser – possibly have to stop with just half a head of foils which wouldn’t be a great look! Love the idea of a DIY pamper box as a baby shower gift x #MaternityMondays

It’s so much nicer having friends around isn’t it You’re right, nights in are so much more relaxed. I think mobile hairdressers are great. It can be unpredictable how long your appointment will be when you go into a salon, that’s the part I’ve always found hard when getting a babysitter.x

what great ideas. I have a mobile hairdresser because it’s easier with the kids. We all need these life hacks when we are so busy 🙂 #MaternityMondays

We really do need these life hacks. It’s so great not having to worry about rushing out half way through an appointment with foils in or wet half done hair. 🙂 xx

I have to admit that I have been feeling very run down and tired recently, so much so that I think it’s making me ill. I am so desperate for a full night’s sleep! The home massage sounds perfect as my back is just one big knot. I don’t think it’s an expense I can afford though. Maybe a long bath and face mask is what I need. That along with a large glass of wine! #sundaystars

Oh you really can’t beat a long bath with a glass of wine! I really hope you get some much deserved sleep soon lovely. :-/ You should try and nudge your partner to give you a massage! It’s so hard to balance it all isn’t it. Working, house work, having a life, babies, especially ones that are up in the night! It can be so overwhelming. When I had someone come over to my house for a home massage it was only £10 which is amazing because they’re usually like £50! I hope you get some much deserved pampering soon. x

There are some brilliant ideas. I love a bit of pampering but as a stay at home mum it is very difficult to find the time. I really think that I need to look into the idea of a mobile masseuse and hairdresser. Thanks for linking up to #SundaysStars. I am sorry that it has taken me so long to comment. I have just moved house and have been without WiFi forever. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

That’s ok. i hope that the house move went smoothly. You most definitely need a massage after a house move with little ones! i hope you’ve managed to catch up with everything ok. x

Some lovely ideas in here, I do not pamper myself enough but I honestly just don’t have the time! Finally getting my hair done next week which I’m really looking forward too!! xx

It’s so hard finding the time isn’t it. At least lots of these you can do post-bed time and you can get them to come to your house. Although if Amelia is anything like Evie, just the sound of any other humans in the house that aren’t her family makes her want to get up and come downstairs to have a peek. x

I jumped on this post as I need some “me” time. Others keep telling me that as well. I love the masseuse suggestion. I had never thought of that. Hubby is just useless! Thank you #TheList

haha the amount of time I try and get my other half to give me a massage and it usually ends up being so bad (don’t tell him that though, 20% of the time it’s ok!) But so many masseuses from local (and top) spas do home visits for super cheap. I went for a pregnancy massage and it was £60 and I got the same masseuse to come to my house recently for £15! It’s so much cheaper. x

There is such a thing as a mobile massuse?! Off to google as this sounds like a brilliant idea … #thelist

I love these – what great ideas. Is it sad that most days I’ll just settle for an extra long game of hide and seek where I’m hiding in a cupboard enjoying the sweet moments of peace? 😛

    • September 8, 2015 / 5:52 pm

Thank you so much. haha I can so relate to that!!! Or an extra long bathroom moment, if you ever get to go alone! 😀 x

Love these ideas, especially the mobile masseuse! I often end up working in the evenings but last night hubby was out watching the football so I enjoyed a long bubble bath and then rubbish TV but if I’d been more organised i could have gone for the mini spa evening 🙂

    • September 21, 2015 / 8:14 pm

Thank you so much. Even without a mini spa evening that sounds like an amazing evening. I’m really envious haha xx

This is some very useful advice for young mothers every where, I am sure that being a full time mother is a very difficult proposition and there should be some free time to relax and recharge, good blog post!
