ALL ABOUT INSTAGRAM HASHTAGS

Instagram is fast becoming the most talked about platform for bloggers and brands to use in 2016.

It’s an amazing social media tool for growing your business or brand and is even a great platform for making money, something we’ll be talking about in the coming weeks.

If you read my post 10 Ways To Grow Your Instagram you would have seen me mention that using hashtags is a great way to start.

So you’re stuck on getting 0-20 photo likes on each image? You have very little followers? You don’t have much interaction? You don’t know which hashtags will benefit you?

Then keep reading for our extensive list of Instagram hashtags and find out why you should be using them for your images:

All About Instagram Hashtags

I must admit that I never really understood Instagram hashtags properly and was one of those people that just added random hashtags to my images, without really thinking about it.

But, being strategic about the hashtags you use, actually helps you to not only grow your followers, but it also attracts the right people to your account. Aka the people that are interested in what you are posting about, which is what you want!

Hashtags can also improve the interaction on each of your images and is also a great way to discover new accounts that you might like to follow too.

If you’re worried about hashtags looking spammy or turning people away from your Instagram, then worry not! You can always drop the hashtags in the comments, or leave a lot of space between the caption and the hashtags.

Since I’ve started to use hashtags properly on Life Unexpected, I’ve not only seen a growth in my likes and interaction on each picture, going from 10 or 12 into the 100’s, but it’s also helped to triple my followers in less than a month, which is pretty impressive.

Also, with Instagram’s new algorithms, its now an even better idea to use hashtags. The more engagement you get on your photos, the more likely your photos are to appear in peoples feeds which means more potential likes and more followers.

Things to note;

  • Instagram only allows you to use 30 hashtags per post.
  • Try not to use hashtags unless they’re relative to the image.
  • You don’t necessarily need to put the hashtags in the caption space, but can put them in below as a comment!
  • Keep a copy of all the hashtags you use in bulk, in the notes section on your phone. You can then easily copy and paste these onto your image without having to type them out or remember them every time.

Here is an example of hashtags attached to one of my images on Life Unexpected…

If you’re not sure which hashtags to use for your feed, try and use ones that are related to each image. If you post a lot of family pictures, use family lifestyle hashtags. If you post about travel, use travel related hashtags and so on.

I post a mix of quotes, lifestyle shots and family pictures so I have three sets of notes on my iPhone with different relative hashtags that I can just copy and paste with ease.

Here are a list of some Instagram hashtags you can use!
