We had a really fun and unexpected day on Saturday. The first surprise was the sunshine. Mr. Weather man had told us to expect the worst weather in 50 years. He fibbed because it was 20 degrees on my car dashboard and I definitely didn’t need a coat and was sweltering in jeans. The perfect weather for an autumn day at the beach.
Evie and I went on a spontaneous trip to a Godrevy beach (a ten minute drive away from home, but a beach we never go to for some reason) for a walk with my mum and step-dad. It was so warm and the beach was practically empty bar a few surfers making the most of the Saturday morning surf.
There is something about the fresh sea air and a warm day to instantly clear your head and put you in the best mood. Look how pretty it was!
Evie got to enjoy her lunch on the rocks with her Nonno (Grandad in Italian) and Grandma. Although she ended up eating a literal SANDwich as she kept dropping it in the sand and still continued to eat it despite us trying to take it off her. Yum! Crunchy!
Surprise number two happened when Jamie unexpectedly got a break from work (this NEVER happens), and rang to say he was on the way. Evie literally squealed with excitement and ran towards him when she saw him. Within minutes of Jamie arriving, surprise number three happened as my older sister rang to say she was also on her way. Wooo!
We explored some rock pools with Evie for the first time while we waited for my sister to arrive with her gorgeous new little baby. We spotted a couple of baby crabs and lots of…fish. It was a lot of fun, we’re definitely coming back soon with nets and buckets to show Evie a bit more of what you can find in the rock pools.
I love the beach (as I’m sure regular blog readers have probably noticed), no matter what the season there is always something to do.
Evie played around the rock pools for nearly an hour. This is like a lifetime for a toddler! Her favourite thing was stomping about in the water, although she kept trying to sit in it.
She loved her new discovery of slippery seaweed and insisted on walking all over it (poor Grandma had to do this for about ten minutes). We found that the areas around the rockpool are perfect for learning about rough and smooth. There were so many different textures. Evie’s favourites were the mussel shells and the soft seaweed.
It was really nice watching her play around on the beach with my family. We’ve never really done this before, which is awful because the beach is so close to us so we really have no excuse.
When my sister arrived we went for a lovely lunch at Sunset Surf, a pretty little cafe that overlooks the bay, and I managed to snap this pretty moment of Amelia with her Nonno and Grandma.
The rain clouds started to loom over the bay just as we finished our last bites, so we made our way back to the cars and home just in time for the heavens to open.
I do have a really lovely whole family picture but my older sister is being a bit of a spoil sport and doesn’t want anyone to see it. For someone who had a baby 5 weeks ago she looks fabulous! Sometimes the best days are the unexpected days.
