We had a really fun and unexpected day on Saturday. The first surprise was the sunshine. Mr. Weather man had told us to expect the worst weather in 50 years. He fibbed because it was 20 degrees on my car dashboard and I definitely didn’t need a coat and was sweltering in jeans. The perfect weather for an autumn day at the beach.

Evie and I went on a spontaneous trip to a Godrevy beach (a ten minute drive away from home, but a beach we never go to for some reason) for a walk with my mum and step-dad. It was so warm and the beach was practically empty bar a few surfers making the most of the Saturday morning surf.

There is something about the fresh sea air and a warm day to instantly clear your head and put you in the best mood. Look how pretty it was!

Evie got to enjoy her lunch on the rocks with her Nonno (Grandad in Italian) and Grandma. Although she ended up eating a literal SANDwich as she kept dropping it in the sand and still continued to eat it despite us trying to take it off her. Yum! Crunchy!

AUTUMN DAY AT THE BEACHSurprise number two happened when Jamie unexpectedly got a break from work (this NEVER happens), and rang to say he was on the way. Evie literally squealed with excitement and ran towards him when she saw him. Within minutes of Jamie arriving, surprise number three happened as my older sister rang to say she was also on her way. Wooo!

AUTUMN DAY AT THE BEACHWe explored some rock pools with Evie for the first time while we waited for my sister to arrive with her gorgeous new little baby. We spotted a couple of baby crabs and lots of…fish. It was a lot of fun, we’re definitely coming back soon with nets and buckets to show Evie a bit more of what you can find in the rock pools.

I love the beach (as I’m sure regular blog readers have probably noticed), no matter what the season there is always something to do.

Evie played around the rock pools for nearly an hour. This is like a lifetime for a toddler! Her favourite thing was stomping about in the water, although she kept trying to sit in it.

She loved her new discovery of slippery seaweed and insisted on walking all over it (poor Grandma had to do this for about ten minutes). We found that the areas around the rockpool are perfect for learning about rough and smooth. There were so many different textures. Evie’s favourites were the mussel shells and the soft seaweed.

It was really nice watching her play around on the beach with my family. We’ve never really done this before, which is awful because the beach is so close to us so we really have no excuse.

When my sister arrived we went for a lovely lunch at Sunset Surf, a pretty little cafe that overlooks the bay, and I managed to snap this pretty moment of Amelia with her Nonno and Grandma.

The rain clouds started to loom over the bay just as we finished our last bites, so we made our way back to the cars and home just in time for the heavens to open.

I do have a really lovely whole family picture but my older sister is being a bit of a spoil sport and doesn’t want anyone to see it. For someone who had a baby 5 weeks ago she looks fabulous! Sometimes the best days are the unexpected days.

What have you all been up to this week? Have you enjoyed any unexpected sunshine?

A gorgeous day out! Lucky you having such wonderful autumn weather to get to the beach. I’m sure you already know how envious I am of you living so close to the beach, fantastic that you can visit it in every season and have impromptu visits with family. A is like that with sand too and ate quite a lot when we were in Italy, he doesn’t seem to care! Your new little niece is gorgeous too, proud grandparents there! 🙂 xx

Awww thank you!!! It’s definitely lovely being so close to the sea, there are downsides though to where we are in Cornwall, like we’re not close to anything like cinemas or bowling alleys or shops. Which is great because there is so much nature to explore, but not great because sometimes you do want to do things indoors and there isn’t anywhere to go. I can’t talk really though, I lived in London once and couldn’t stand being so far away from the sea so moved back. I’d chose it over shops and entertainment any day.
Haha it’s so gross to eat! But as long as they enjoy it I guess we can’t complain. I guess it’s a different texture to try isn’t it. x

We actually had the paddling pool out at the weekend – I can’t believe how nice it was! #whatevertheweather

It’s been great! This weekend is supposed to be lovely too! Fingers crossed! I’m hoping to actually wear a summer dress at some point this year haha. x

It really does seem to be warming up doesn’t it! You should definitely go. Hopefully the sunshine will stay for the rest of September. x

  5. September 23, 2015 / 8:48 am

It looks like you had a lovely day 🙂 I’m so glad we’ve had a bit more sneaky sunshine. It’s so nice to have a few more surprise days of being on the beach without a coat! Glad you all managed to make the most of it

  7. September 23, 2015 / 9:06 am

What a gorgeous day to go to the beach, and rockpooling is so much fun! I always wish I live closer (but then I’m sure I wouldn’t go as much if it was on my doorstep) #whatevertheweather

    • September 25, 2015 / 1:26 pm

Thank you. We go to the beach all the time, but only because Evie’s dad works on the beach. If he didn’t we probably wouldn’t go so often. I’ve definitely been more since i’ve had a child, but oh my does the sand get EVERYWHERE. x

  8. September 23, 2015 / 10:28 am

We love autumn days! Crisp, dry and bright sunshine make for great days at the beach. I love rock pooling x #Whatevertheweather

Autumn days are so beautiful aren’t they. Even the slight chill is welcoming. x

  12. September 23, 2015 / 3:17 pm

I understand the thrill of having dad join the fun. Totally makes my kid’s day. Beautiful pictures.

    • September 25, 2015 / 1:32 pm

It’s so lovely isn’t it, especially when it’s unexpected. I have fallen into the trap of nagging him to do things on days off (it needs to stop) so having an unexpected day really reiterated to me that we need to have more fun together and relax. x

  13. September 23, 2015 / 5:43 pm

Absolutely, sometimes the best days are the unexpected ones! What lovely photos of your day, especially the ones of Evie splashing in the rock pools 🙂

  14. September 23, 2015 / 6:51 pm

It looks like a fantastic day – and all unplanned! I agree, the surprise days are the best.

    • September 25, 2015 / 1:33 pm

Thank you it really was. 😀 I love days like this x

    • September 25, 2015 / 1:34 pm

Thank you so much! They’re so sweet aren’t they. They do red and yellow ones in Mothercare at the moment. I love the traditional colours. x

  16. September 23, 2015 / 9:00 pm

What a great day out and a lovely that you got to hang out with your family too! That’s the great thing about doing local things, and you’re so lucky to live near a beach! Jealous! There’s something so nice about going to a seaside off-season, how you have it all to yourself, love it! Sabrina xx #whatevertheweather

    • September 25, 2015 / 1:36 pm

Thank you so much Sabrina. It really was lovely. You’re so right as well, off season is the best! x

  20. September 24, 2015 / 3:42 pm

Living in Oxfordshire I’m very jealous of your 10 minute drive to the beach! We live 1.5 hours away on a bad weather day but it takes much longer on a sunny day. It sounds like you had a lovely time at the beach and great fun in the rock pools. #whatevertheweather

    • September 25, 2015 / 1:39 pm

Oh thank you. Gosh that is a long time. Oxfordshire is so beautiful though, you’re so lucky to live there. x

  21. September 25, 2015 / 8:07 pm

I’m so pleased that the sunshine came out and you had a lovely day. The pictures are gorgeous X

  22. September 25, 2015 / 8:12 pm

I love the beach in the colder months, partly because it’s lovely and quiet 🙂 My boys love going in the water no matter how cold it is the crazy things!
    Stevie x #WhatevertheWeather

    • September 27, 2015 / 7:47 pm

It is so quiet. Haha it is getting so cold in the sea now, they’re definitely a lot braver than me! 😀 x

  23. September 27, 2015 / 8:06 am

Looks like you had an amazing time 🙂 such lovely photos and brilliant that Jamie and your sister managed to make it too. I wish we lived so close to the beach I would be there every day if that was the case. Great idea to teach smooth and rough too. Thank you for hosting #whatevertheweather xx

    • September 27, 2015 / 7:57 pm

Thank you so much, it was a brilliant day. We’re trying so hard to not go everyday. The biggest downside is that sand gets EVERYWHERE! Our car is a sandpit and the worst is sometimes getting into bed only to find it’s crunchy haha. x

  24. September 29, 2015 / 12:10 am

We love the beach also, as you might have noticed;) I totally agree that the beach has a way if putting you in a good mood. There really something about the air and sounds and smells. Looks like you have beautiful beaches there! I also love watching my kids explore and find critters! Thanks so much for hosting this great link up. I’m really enjoying being transported all over the world to so many beautiful places:)

    • October 1, 2015 / 6:48 pm

Haha i have noticed. It’s a great place to be though! I need to get much better with critters, I’m still a bit nervous over anything that isn’t soft and fluffy. But doing more things like this will help! 🙂 Thank you so much for linking. I’m so glad you’re enjoying everyones posts as well! 😀 xx

  25. October 2, 2015 / 10:41 pm

Aww it looks like you had a fantastic day!! What a lovely sunny day!! Love your photos at the beach. It is always very nice to spend some time with your family right? I miss so much living close to the beach. When I travel to Peru to visit my parents I just love waking up in the morning with the sound of the waves from the sea and the beautiful smell of the sea air. It is so lovely over there too! Thanks for hosting and so sorry for commenting so late! x

    • October 7, 2015 / 5:48 pm
