If the weather we just had this past weekend told us anything, it’s that Summer is definitely coming. Finally. What a great May bank holiday! We spent the majority of our weekend doing two things.
Going on beach walks and freshening up some of the rooms in our house for Summer.
I love changing up our home at this time of year. Spring cleaning is definitely a ‘thing’ for us. For the last few weeks, we’ve been trying to make our house a lot brighter, one room at a time.
We’ve tackled Evie’s room and we’ve finally finished the office, but the focus this weekend has been on our master bedroom.
I am really loving what we have done to this space so far. Just this weekend alone, it had a lick of paint, we added a few plants, a couple of accessories and we brightened it up with some new bedding from the Debenhams Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
Brightening Up Our Bedroom With Debenhams
Our master bedroom is the last room in the house we’ve really needed to tackle. It’s not finished yet because we just haven’t had the time, but I’m so happy with the progress so far. When it’s done, I’ll be sure to post a big reveal on Life Unexpected.
For a long time now I’ve wanted to make this space a lot more inviting, relaxing and bright. Our walls were previously magnolia, but for some reason it made the room look dull and oddly a little ‘grey’. It’s amazing what a lick of white paint can do.
Just this one change has already made our room feel so much bigger and so much nicer to be in.
We did have our doubts whether white would be too bright for the room, because all of our furniture is white too. But, it actually looks so good and we’ve really tried to focus on accessorising with a lot of wood; including wooden photo frames, trays and mirrors. The wood seems to break up the white and keep it from being too overbearing.
I want the room to be very white but full of plants, with lots of wood accessories and also some Moroccan style textiles to finish it off.
We initially bought some plain white bedding with the intention to accessorise with Moroccan style cushions, but it made the room seem really bland.
This week Debenhams got in touch and asked if we’d like to choose some bedding to review from their new Spring/Summer collection. When I had a peek at their range and saw this blue and white bedding I was so happy.
It’s EXACTLY what we have been looking for. Like literally! It’s got a slight Moroccan style to it, but it’s still white, it’s bright and the colours aren’t too bold.
Summer Bedding From Debenhams
The one thing I love about shopping at Debenhams, is the huge range of choice they have. There are so many different bedding styles to choose from. They have plain but high quality bedding sets, they have sets that are ultra vibrant with bold patterns and they also have subtle and refreshing styles like the one we choose.
I wanted to inject a bit more colour into our room, but nothing too vibrant as I find it so relaxing being in a white room, surrounded by lots more white. The bedding set we chose was from the Butterfly by Matthew Williamson collection. Matthew Williamson is a famous designer but he’s made this collection exclusively for Debenhams.
Just look at the pattern on this bedding. Isn’t it beautiful? The bedding set comes with a duvet cover and two pillow cases. The whole bedding set is made with an ultra-soft cotton blend.
It’s honestly so, so soft and it feels really lovely to snuggle under. For the past three nights I have been so excited to hop under the covers for a sleep.
Both the pillows and the duvet cover also have a really adorable gold pom pom trim around the edges. I think this is such a playful, subtle and beautiful touch.
We finished off the bed with a few cushions from the same Butterfly by Matthew Williamson collection. We chose two cushions in this dark turquoise hue colour and also a feature cushion in a sort of burnt orange colour.
The floral design is slightly raised, making the pattern really stand out. The cushions are so lovely! They’re such high quality and I think they compliment the bedding really well.
But Mr ‘Orange’ hater actually really loves it, just as much as I do.
Creating A Comforting Master Bedroom
I can’t wait for us to finish our bedroom now. Getting this bedding has really motivated me to get it done. All we need to do now, before the big reveal, is to accessorise the rest of the room.
I also have my eye on a gorgeous wooden ladder to lean up against one of the walls.
Lastly I’m on the look out for one of those weave style wall hangings and also some basket style plant pots, that will fit the three plants that we’ve just bought for this space.
I honestly cannot wait to show you the rest of this room when its done. Keep your eyes peeled on Life Unexpected for the big reveal and in the meantime, pop over to Debenhams and check out the rest of their Summer bedding collection here. There are some truly gorgeous pieces.
