BRIGHTENING UP OUR BEDROOM WITH DEBENHAMS

BRIGHTENING UP OUR BEDROOM WITH DEBENHAMS

If the weather we just had this past weekend told us anything, it’s that Summer is definitely coming. Finally. What a great May bank holiday! We spent the majority of our weekend doing two things.

Going on beach walks and freshening up some of the rooms in our house for Summer.

I love changing up our home at this time of year. Spring cleaning is definitely a ‘thing’ for us. For the last few weeks, we’ve been trying to make our house a lot brighter, one room at a time.

We’ve tackled Evie’s room and we’ve finally finished the office, but the focus this weekend has been on our master bedroom.

I am really loving what we have done to this space so far. Just this weekend alone, it had a lick of paint, we added a few plants, a couple of accessories and we brightened it up with some new bedding from the Debenhams Spring/Summer 2018 collection.

Our master bedroom is the last room in the house we’ve really needed to tackle. It’s not finished yet because we just haven’t had the time, but I’m so happy with the progress so far. When it’s done, I’ll be sure to post a big reveal on Life Unexpected.

For a long time now I’ve wanted to make this space a lot more inviting, relaxing and bright. Our walls were previously magnolia, but for some reason it made the room look dull and oddly a little ‘grey’. It’s amazing what a lick of white paint can do.

Just this one change has already made our room feel so much bigger and so much nicer to be in.

We did have our doubts whether white would be too bright for the room, because all of our furniture is white too. But, it actually looks so good and we’ve really tried to focus on accessorising with a lot of wood; including wooden photo frames, trays and mirrors. The wood seems to break up the white and keep it from being too overbearing.

The one thing we’ve been struggling to find for the room though, has been new bedding. We have been super fussy because we know exactly what we want.

I want the room to be very white but full of plants, with lots of wood accessories and also some Moroccan style textiles to finish it off.

We initially bought some plain white bedding with the intention to accessorise with Moroccan style cushions, but it made the room seem really bland.

We’ve been shopping around for so long and it has been so hard finding exactly what we want!

This week Debenhams got in touch and asked if we’d like to choose some bedding to review from their new Spring/Summer collection. When I had a peek at their range and saw this blue and white bedding I was so happy.

It’s EXACTLY what we have been looking for. Like literally! It’s got a slight Moroccan style to it, but it’s still white, it’s bright and the colours aren’t too bold.

Summer Bedding From Debenhams

The one thing I love about shopping at Debenhams, is the huge range of choice they have. There are so many different bedding styles to choose from. They have plain but high quality bedding sets, they have sets that are ultra vibrant with bold patterns and they also have subtle and refreshing styles like the one we choose.

I wanted to inject a bit more colour into our room, but nothing too vibrant as I find it so relaxing being in a white room, surrounded by lots more white. The bedding set we chose was from the Butterfly by Matthew Williamson collection. Matthew Williamson is a famous designer but he’s made this collection exclusively for Debenhams.

The collection plays host to several different styles of bedding, as well as soft furnishings and some home accessories. You can find the whole collection here: Butterfly by Matthew Williamson.

Just look at the pattern on this bedding. Isn’t it beautiful? The bedding set comes with a duvet cover and two pillow cases. The whole bedding set is made with an ultra-soft cotton blend.

It’s honestly so, so soft and it feels really lovely to snuggle under. For the past three nights I have been so excited to hop under the covers for a sleep.

The duvet set isn’t too thick either, so it’s perfect for those warmer summer nights. But, my favourite thing about the bedding is the pattern and the detailing. It’s part printed and part embroidered with this really elegant blue pattern. The embroidery and stitching detail that runs through the centre is just gorgeous.

Both the pillows and the duvet cover also have a really adorable gold pom pom trim around the edges. I think this is such a playful, subtle and beautiful touch.

Accessories

We finished off the bed with a few cushions from the same Butterfly by Matthew Williamson collection. We chose two cushions in this dark turquoise hue colour and also a feature cushion in a sort of burnt orange colour.

The turquoise cushions are so soft! They’ve been designed with a cotton shell but have a soft velvet textured finish.

The floral design is slightly raised, making the pattern really stand out. The cushions are so lovely! They’re such high quality and I think they compliment the bedding really well.

My fiancee hates anything orange, so I thought I’d have to do some explaining (and some convincing) about the orange cushion, as I didn’t tell him that I’d also ordered it.

But Mr ‘Orange’ hater actually really loves it, just as much as I do.

I think the embroidery on it is so beautiful. It’s crafted from cotton but features crewel detailing. It’s then finished off with three adorable little tassels on each corner; one in orange, one in grey and one in a dark pink colour.
It’s such a colourful addition to our room and has actually inspired me to use a few more of these colours across the rest of the bedroom. I’m not looking for a similar coloured blanket and wall hanging.

Creating A Comforting Master Bedroom

I can’t wait for us to finish our bedroom now. Getting this bedding has really motivated me to get it done. All we need to do now, before the big reveal, is to accessorise the rest of the room.

We’re looking to get some new curtains. We also want two big wooden photo frames to go above the bed with either pictures or some unique art work inside.

I also have my eye on a gorgeous wooden ladder to lean up against one of the walls.

The ladder will be used to stylishly store our blanket and we’ll also wrap some fairy lights around it too.

Lastly I’m on the look out for one of those weave style wall hangings and also some basket style plant pots, that will fit the three plants that we’ve just bought for this space.

I honestly cannot wait to show you the rest of this room when its done. Keep your eyes peeled on Life Unexpected for the big reveal and in the meantime, pop over to Debenhams and check out the rest of their Summer bedding collection here. There are some truly gorgeous pieces.

What do you think of our bedding set from Debenhams? Would you opt for something more vibrant, plainer, or is this just right? Let me know below.

Oh that’s a beautiful bedding set. I could definitely see something like that in our bedroom when we eventually buy a house here in Portugal. And the cushion is also right up my street!
