Do you fancy winning a family holiday in Cornwall?

Readers of Life Unexpected will know how much we love a good family holiday. But, from our experience of travelling both at home and around the world, it’s really rare to find family friendly accommodation that has got it just right.

Sands Resort Hotel & Spa in Cornwall is definitely one of those rare gems. For the last 5 years Sands Resort has been voted one of the top 10 family hotels in the UK by TripAdvisor users. We’re not only excited to share with you everything we know about this family friendly hotel, but we also are giving YOU a chance to WIN a baby & toddler break of your very own.

Sands Resort Hotel & Spa

Sat on a clifftop, 1 mile north of Newquay and a short hop from Watergate bay, sits the Sands Resort Hotel & Spa. With stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, it’s a picture perfect location for a family holiday in Cornwall.  Wouldn’t you agree?

Family Accommodation

Imagine checking into the hotel, heading down to your room and opening the door to be met with the most stunning view! With options of country views, garden views or sea views, the spacious and perfectly equipped rooms at Sand Resort will instantly put you in holiday mode. And look how gorgeous the rooms are…

If you’re coming as a family, then family suites offer really comfy rooms with separate sleeping areas. This is so perfect for when the kids are in bed and you want to wind down and have some quality ‘you time’ without disturbing them. All family suites also have a small fridge, a kettle, a baby listening device, a TV and a DVD player.

Free hire of baby equipment

Wouldn’t it be great if you could travel with a baby or toddler and not worry about remembering all the extra things that you need to pack for them, and then trying to fit them all in the car?

There are so many reasons why Sands Resort is an amazing family friendly hotel and this is one of them! At Sands Resort Hotel you can hire cots, prams, kiddie carriers, bottle sterilisers and bottle warmers, all completely free of charge, so you don’t need to worry about bringing them. They also have high chairs, buckets, spades and windbreaks, as well as wetsuits and bodyboards. Plus, the onsite shop stocks everything you might need, in case you’ve accidentally left something behind. How lovely is that?

But, What Is There To Do For Families In Cornwall?

I could go on forever about all the ‘top things to do for families in Cornwall‘. But first and foremost, the most important thing to know about Sands Resort Hotel, is that there is a huge beach only a 5 minute walk down the road. What more could you need?

If the beach isn’t your thing then you’ll be pleased to know that Sands Resort is sat in a prime location in Cornwall, meaning you’re not far from popular family attractions such as The Eden Project, Dairyland Farmworld and Newquay Zoo, as well as lovely local towns like Padstow and Newquay.

  • An Indoor Pool
  • A Tennis Court
  • Pitch n’ Putt
  • Croquet

If you do fancy heading out to the beach for the day though, you can pop over to the Sand Resorts ‘Surf Shack’ to hire wetsuits and body boards for all ages and for free!

Food & Drink

One thing we always struggle with when we go away, is finding a restaurant that has baby and toddler friendly eating times. As a couple we like to eat a lot later than Evie does, but as a parent you’ll know all too well the struggle of finding somewhere that serves food earlier, just for them.

Family Holidays In Cornwall - Win A Baby & Toddler Break To Sands Resort Hotel & Spa

Sands Resort really understand parents needs and have a variety of meal time options. For kids that like to eat early, ‘Early Children’s Tea’ starts at 5pm. The restaurant even offers a wide range of baby jars. Or, they can puree any dish from the dinner menu for older babies. The daily changing menu offers delicious Mediterranean inspired food, that’ll be loved by the entire family, even the fussiest of eaters.

The best bit? The restaurant is split into three different dining areas: one for families with younger children, one for families with older children and an ‘adults only’ dining zone.

So what if you don’t want to dine early with your baby? At Sands Resort, you have the option to dine as a family or you can take your kids to the  early Children’s Tea and then head back down later in the evening when they’re tucked up in bed, to enjoy a quiet, romantic adult dinner for two.

Baby Listening & Kids Clubs

One thing that always gives a family holiday some serious brownie points from me, is when a hotel gives you the opportunity for not only family bonding time, but also for time alone, or time as a couple.

When was the last time you got to relax with a book? Don’t even get me started on the last time you managed to find a babysitter so you could go for a romantic dinner or even better yet, enjoy a spa treatment.

But Sands Resort gives you the option for all of that and more. Can we seriously move in now? If you wanted to go for a romantic, adults only dinner, every family room comes with a ‘baby listening device’. This means you can tuck your precious little ones into bed and head out to dinner in the hotel restaurant. The hotels specialist ‘baby listening team’ will come and find you immediately if your baby needs you. But if they don’t, you can enjoy some much needed time alone or couple bonding time, without having to worry.

But what if you fancy some couple time or alone time during the day? Maybe even a cheeky swim in the pool or better yet a massage in the spa!

During the day there is an onsite Ofsted approved crèche where the trained childcare staff can take care of your baby for a little while, while you catch up on some sleep or treat yourself to a lovely massage at the spa. After all, it is your holiday too! You can enjoy some guilt free time while your baby has fun playing and making new friends.

Why not take full advantage of the onsite spa?

Ocean Breeze Spa and The Moroccan Spa Experience

There are two different spa experiences at Sands Resort Hotel. The first is the ‘Ocean Breeze Spa’ where you can take a dip in the pool, enjoy the steam room and experience some traditional spa treatments, from massages to facials.

There is also the brand new ‘Moroccan Spa Experience. We recently popped up to try out the ‘Moroccan Spa Experience’ for ourselves. This is the perfect treat for any frazzled, tired parents who are looking for a bit of quiet time.

Family Holidays In Cornwall - Win A Baby & Toddler Break To Sands Resort Hotel & Spa

The ‘Moroccan Spa Experience’ lasts for about 90 minutes. It coincides with the kids clubs, so you can truly experience some guilt free ‘you time’.

Family Holidays In Cornwall - Win A Baby & Toddler Break To Sands Resort Hotel & Spa

During the ‘Moroccan Spa Experience’, you have the option to relax in the cedar barrel sauna or the warm, bubbling hot tub. After a little relaxation you can hang out in the gorgeous Moroccan inspired indoor garden. Here you will be served Moroccan mint tea, cakes and you can even indulge in a cheeky glass of prosecco.

Family Holidays In Cornwall - Win A Baby & Toddler Break To Sands Resort Hotel & Spa

I have to say the tea and cakes were so delicious and the decor has even inspired me to bring a little ‘Morocco’ into my own home. From the lights, to the bowls and glasses, the whole room is so beautiful. I can vouch for the fact that the Moroccan Spa Experience will leave you feeling so relaxed and refreshed. Something that’s definitely a rarity when your a mum to a busy toddler!

  18. November 7, 2017 / 8:03 pm

To be honest its difficult to narrow it down to three things! I think Cornwall is such a friendly place for families with lots to do anyway. So my top three specific to the resort – the fact that there is baby equipment, nothing worse that trying to squeeze everything into a car and failing! The suites means that there is lots of room for a family plus you can relax with a glass of wine (Not having to sit on the bed!) while the little ones sleep. And finally that the resort understands kids – the fact that tea is available from 5pm, the activities, play area and creche (Spa plllleeeaaasseeee). This truly is family friendly and that is hard to find. x

  19. Laura Lee
    November 7, 2017 / 9:44 pm

Firstly I would go for the location. I like to get out and about and not stay exclusively in a resort. The family rooms allow you to get peaceful wind down time for the adults. I would like to take on my grandchildre at table tennis as I used to be pretty good and they do not know this and could be in for a shock!

The ocean breeze spa is such a plus, just what you need a nice massage to relax before popping down for a well-deserved glass of wine and meal in there lush restaurants (fantastic that they have 3 different seating areas, such a fab idea x

Which three things do I love the most about Sands Resort In Cornwall?

The three things I love the most are:
    1. The hotels views of the ocean and the fact you can walk to the beach in 5 minutes
    2. That the suites have separate sleeping areas – bedtimes always an issue on family holidays
    3. The Moroccan Spa Experience – looks heavenly and I’d love to give it a try!

  53. Lynne Durkin
    November 14, 2017 / 12:40 pm

Haven’t been to Cornwall since I was small but would love to visit again. The location looks fantastic and being so close to places we’d like to visit such as Newquay Zoo makes it even more ideal. So many facilities and activities for families but love the idea of adult only dining times too for some quiet times.

  55. Becci
    November 14, 2017 / 9:07 pm

This sounds so dreamy and really carefully planned to make a family break actually relaxing not a marathon! I love that they have a baby monitor so you could sneak away for dinner. Having separate rooms for sleeping so you don’t have to sneak around in the dark is brilliant. And all the activities on the doorstep sound fab. Ohhh I’m off to dream of a relaxing mini break whilst trying to remove the avocado my mini one somehow seems to have squished into my hairbrush today!

I love the idea of using the kids club to get a chance to relax in the spa and also that the rooms have a separate sleeping area for the kids (I’ve had a holiday before where we were all in the same room together and it didn’t make for the most relaxing evening for my husband and I!)

We would love to introduce our boys who are 3 and 8 months to Cornwall (hubby and I honeymooned there 6 years ago). Sands sounds absolutely perfect – stunning scenery, beautiful beach and a truly child friendly hotel and restaurant. Spa sounds good too!

I love the fact it is a place that will keep the kids extremely happy, when they are happy us parents are happy, the pool area looks great and my kids are waterbabies(well kids more so now than babies :-).) I also love the moroccan look and it will feel like you have been transported abroad minus the stressful flight with kids.

    2) the spa sounds amazing
    3) The winter cocktails sound amazing!!!

Wow, where to start. I’m 5 months pregnant with our first and we are really excited about planning out first family holiday but extremely nervous about how we are going to balance having an actual holiday against the stress of being out of our own home and dealing with the baby in an unfamiliar environment. This holiday sounds absolutely perfect. It’s hard to narrow down to three things but I’d say that the baby listening team sounds perfect for peace of mind (I cant guarantee Id be able to leave the baby but just having the facility there makes it an actual option!!), the free hire of baby things especially the cot makes packing less stressful and I’ve googled the location so the third thing is definitely the area – so much to do! I would love to go to the Eden project but it’s just too far to travel from our home. Love everything about this article and the holiday!

I love how it really caters for children, that’s the one thing we find difficult when we go on holiday – we only holiday in the UK and we have children aged 2, 8, 11 and 12 and they all want different things and get bored easily, the amount of activities offered onsite would easily keep all of them happy. I also like that because they are onsite I would feel comfortable letting the two older girls explore and go and do their own activities!

The best thing about Sands Resort is that it’s in Cornwall – we absolutely love Cornwall as a family as my mother in law was born here but sadly we don’t get to go back often!
Free hire of baby equipment is a massive bonus as it’ll save so much room in the car! And an indoor pool is perfect – hours of fun for the whole family 😊 xx
