We’ve had such a surreal, hectic, beautiful couple of weeks. I’ve celebrated my 28th birthday, been whisked off for a romantic holiday to Venice and…we got engaged!!

Snapshots & Scenes September

I’ve missed writing a #LittleLoves post these last couple of weeks because I’ve been so busy catching up after our little getaway. I’m still sort of coming to terms with this new status and I’m in such a little bubble of happiness at the moment.

We Got Engaged! Ahhh!

So other than our happy news, this week for me, has been all about catching up on blog work and spending lots of time embracing a more laid back Autumn and prepping our Autumn bucket list. I spent too much of Summer rushing about and it really started to take its toll. Now I’m really enjoying slowing down, reading more, listening to music and taking time out just to enjoy Evie. Onto our #LittleLoves.

This week I have:

It’s Ok To Take A Blog Break by Mum In Brum – Regular readers would have noticed that Life Unexpected took a LONG hiatus just before summer and since I’ve come back, I have to say I have fallen more deeply in love with blogging than ever before AND my whole outlook on blogging has changed! This week I read this post by Mum in Brum and I can completely relate to it. Just like Natalie, I had so much fear about taking a blogging break. Would I be throwing away everything I’d worked for for three years? Would my tots score plummet? My page views? My social media channels? Would brands not want to work with me anymore?

We Got Engaged

Just like her I’ve come back to blogging with fresh eyes. I no longer give two hoots about blog stats or leaderboards (I was shocked to still be doing ok, but realised I don’t want the stress so deleted tots). And it really put my priorities in place. Too many of us work ourselves into the ground over our blogs, but sometimes its for the wrong reasons. Sometimes we’re chasing stats and forgetting what we loved about blogging in the first place. If you’re feeling swamped and overwhelmed with blogging, read Natalie’s post and remember…it really is OK to take a break.

The Originals – I am absolutely obsessed with this programme. I used to be so in love with The Vampire Diaries but I have to admit this show has completely over taken it. The Vampire Diaries went really down hill for me in the 5th/6th season so I was really glad when this spin off came. I love the story behind The Original vampires and this show doesn’t disappoint.

It really gets into the dynamics of family and how much you’ll go to the ends of the earth for someone you love, even if you don’t like each other too much. I definitely also have such a thing about Elijah too. Much to Aitan’s annoyance! I think it might be the suits he always wears. And the accent of course.

You & Me – Dallas Green is one of my favourite singers of all time. I loved him in Alexisonfire. I was lucky enough to see them live a few times before their split. I also loved his solo stuff as ‘City & Colour’. I used to annoy everyone I used to work with by playing it all the time on our work sound system.

And now I love his ‘You & Me’ collaboration with Alicia Moore (Pink) and especially this song. It is so, so beautiful. I love how much their voices just gel together and harmonise in such a stunning way.

A Youtube Video – I really love joining in with ‘Snapshots & Scenes‘ again this month. ‘Snapshots & Scenes’ is a new monthly vlogging linky run by a few of my favourite bloggers. The idea is that each month you put together a short little video made up of all your video clips that capture what you’ve been doing.

I’m only now getting the gist of how to edit videos but I do still have a very long way to go. I’ve noticed that loads of people have their own blog logos and text over their edited videos. I would love to know how to do this, so if any of you know, please do let me know in the comments below!

My engagement ring – I am so in love with my ring, I was so speechless when I saw it for the first time and I keep catching myself just staring at it. I literally cannot believe Aitan got it so right.

I’ve never told him what rings I like and my mum swears she didn’t either. I’ve always, always dreamt of a princess cut ring. Right now being someones fiancee is such a surreal feeling. He proposed on a gondola in Venice and it was such a beautiful, magical moment. I really hope this bubble of happiness lasts for a long, long time.

Venice – I want to go back already. I’ve been looking through my holiday snaps this week and I just feel so lucky that I got to go to Venice again. I’ve been all over the world and Venice has somehow over taken my love for my previous favourites, Cape Town and Palma De Mallorca.

It has such a new meaning for me now and even though I have a motto that I want to visit everywhere once, I am planning on going back. If you have never been to Venice then it really is a must. It’s so beautiful and there is something so magical about everything being on the water. It was oddly peaceful without cars around and there is such a nice atmosphere in the city. If it’s not on your bucket list, it needs to be!

If you know of any amazing wedding blogs or magazines that I should have a peek at, or if you have any wedding tips please feel free to post them below!

Oh wow congratulations!! That engagement sounds incredible, so pleased for you both! I visited Venice when travelling Europe in my early twenties but didn’t stay for long enough and I’ve never been back. I’d love to visit again with the hubby as it is so romantic and full of culture – pricey though if I remember correctly!? Or perhaps it was just because I was a poor student back then 😉 Your ring is beautiful. Glad you enjoyed the post, your blog is awesome you don’t need the stats to tell you that. I so need to up my vlogging game – might have to join in with snapshots and scenes xx

  • Mum Reinvented says:

Congratulations! What a gorgeous ring and how wonderful getting engaged in one of the most romantic cities in the world! Venice does look gorgeous. It’s one of those I’ve always thought I could take it or leave it when coming to visiting but after seeing your pics I really want to go now. Hope you’re having a great weekend x

  • Sarah Christie says:

Ah huge congratulations what amazing news and Venice is somewhere I have always wanted to visit, I need to get there soon. I so get what you mean about rankings and charts its hard to walk away from yet at the same time it irritates the life out of me I bet the decision made you feel so free x

  • Katie Halsall says:

Congrats! And what a lovely place to get engaged!
I keep meaning to get back into The Originals… I don’t think I’m past season 2! I did love The Vampire Diaries though, and I think it was best when the originals were actually in it!

Oh babes Congratulations!!! Happy birthday and what a wonderful place to get whisked off to and looks like you got the weather too. I love Venice although the fours days we were there it poured buckets and flooded the entire time we still loved it though. What a magical few weeks. I always take summers off. I barely get on social except ig stories and I don’t blog or tend to emails daily like I do the rest of the year and it always brings me back recharged and ready to go. #litteloves
