Has anyone else felt like this last week has really gone slow? I feel like last Friday was forever ago. Luckily its been a very busy but pretty darn good week!
Before I get on with this post, I just really want to say thank you to everyone who commented on my #LittleLoves post last week. I had some really beautiful comments and I’m always really grateful to read them. A lot of you commented on my enthusiasm and excitement for this year and I’m chuffed to say it hasn’t waned yet. In fact, I feel even more on track now because my beautiful ‘CEO Of My Own Life Planner‘ (more about that later) arrived this week and our home office is pretty much complete, so we have gorgeous new bright space to work in.
I mentioned last week about my ‘new habits’ that I’ve been trying to throw myself into. I’ve still been doing my daily ‘5 Minute Morning Wake-Up Workout‘. The crazy thing is, I not only feel so much better for it, but I’m starting to notice a difference in my strength and stamina.
One habit I also promised to commit to, was joining in with #LittleLoves every week. I truly adore this feature. It’s such a lovely way to round up the week and to help encourage me to read more and to be more creative. I hope you love reading this post as much as I love pulling it together. Now, enough waffling. Here’s my #LittleLoves for this week:
LOST IN THE WOODS, OFFICE MAKEOVER AND LOTS OF LACE #LittleLoves
This week has been all about trying to get our new office space finished, finding some new books to read and falling in love with some very beautiful lace tops.
Night Circus – One of my big goals for this year is to read a lot more. When I was little you’d always find me curled up with a book. When I was 10 we had a reading challenge at school and I read nearly 500 books in one year! Nowadays I always seem to feel so guilty about reading. Last year I read about three books. I always use the excuse that I have so much to do, so reading seems to always take a backseat. Reading has always been something for ‘me’ and ‘me time’ is really rare now I’m a mum.
This year I have challenged myself to get the balance a little bit better and to take back some ‘me time’. I’m on a mission to read one book every fortnight and I’m trying to shut down my laptop an hour earlier so I can read a book before bed.
I finished ‘Rules Of Magic‘ last week and I’ve just picked up this book called the ‘Night Circus‘. I’m a few pages in and I’m already completely mesmerised by this world. The book is so indescribably unique. I’ve not read enough of it yet to put into words what is happening. But, I can honestly say I’ve never read a book quite like it. I promise next week I’ll have a better, less vague description. But, for now just trust me, it is so good.
Jumanji – We went to the cinema again this week! We barely went at all last year and now we’ve been twice in a fortnight, which is so lovely. I really wanted to see the new Jumanji, and a little group of us spontaneously got together for pizza and a movie night. I really, really loved this film. I wasn’t too impressed with the ending but oh my goodness, it was HILARIOUS!
I am a huge fan of the first film and was a little bit worried I’d spend the whole film comparing the two. But luckily it’s completely different in every way and just so funny throughout.
This time Jumanji is based in the jungle, when a group of teenagers get sucked into the game. The only thing is, when they arrive in Jumanji they’re no longer in their bodies, but the bodies of the characters in the game. Watching ‘The Rock’, aka Dwayne Johnson, play a teenage boy and Jack Black play a teenage girl, is hilarious.
Lost In The Woods – I am so bad at this section. I’m not very good at finding music to listen to (oh the irony because I used to be so obsessed with music that I did a degree in Music Industry Management and Live Events).
This week I’ve been listening to an indie folk playlist called ‘Lost In The Woods’. I’ve had this on in the background in the evenings while I’ve been working on my blog. It’s a really relaxing playlist and some of the songs are incredibly beautiful.
Aside from this playlist, I feel like I’ve hit a wall with music. I would really love some suggestions of new artists to listen to. Who do you love to listen to? Do you have a favourite playlist? I’d love for you to post some suggestions for me below. I’ll give them all a listen and will write about them next week!
Over Our Office – For so long now we’ve been talking about making over our office space. It’s finally ALMOST done. I’m going to write up an ‘office reveal’ post this week because I’m so in love with what we’ve done with it so far. I’ve not yet finished buying pictures for the walls, stationary and accessories, but the majority of it is finished. All the furniture is in and I feel so lucky to get to use this space everyday for work.
I feel a lot more productive having a separate space to work in. I also find that it’s really helping me to find that home/life balance a little bit more. I wrote a post last year about survival tips for work at home mums. One of my main tips was for work at home mums to find a space to work in that isn’t the sofa, dining room table or bed. I can honestly vouch for the fact that life is so much better now I have done this. Keep your eyes peeled for our office post coming this week!
Lace Tops – Another one of my missions for this year is to find ‘my style’. I’ve always loved clothes and shopping, but I can honestly say I’ve never been particularly stylish. I’ve tried to follow trends, I’ve tried to fit in with the crowd, but this year I’ve decided to challenge myself to find MY STYLE.
Last week I started a new weekly feature called ‘What Mama Wore‘, in an attempt to turn this plain jane into a more flamboyant peacock. I want to start wearing clothes that make me feel beautiful, comfortable, stylish and happy.
Last weeks post featured a really casual look where I teamed a gorgeous, super soft pink jumper (you can read about it here) with my favourite new ankle boots and some classic Joni jeans.
Tomorrows post is going to feature one of my new beautiful lace tops. I found three of these on a store called ‘Easy Clothes‘. I bought two in black, one is velvet and one cotton, and a third in white. They team so beautifully with jeans and I love that they can easily be dressed up or down.
Easy Clothes is based in Belgium but they deliver to the UK too. Their clothes are absolutely gorgeous and really, really inexpensive! Most of their items have a big focus on lace. You can get lace style jumpers, cardigans, tops, bodysuits and jackets! They also have lots of other beautiful pieces too that don’t involve lace. I have my eye on a pink suede jacket next!
CEO Of My Life Planner – My planner arrived this week and to say I am in love with it is an understatement. I have a feeling this planner is going to completely overhaul my life! I’m so tempted to write a separate post all about it.
The most amazing thing for me, is that it encourages you to find the balance in life, something I’ve been desperately trying to do for so long now. Instead of traditional everyday layouts, the daily layout of this diary has been designed to encourage you to spread your time equally between four sections: health, family, work and YOU. Yes, you! When was the last time you scheduled in something for you?
I’ve been really enjoying filling in that little box this week. What’s even better is that the day is also split into hourly slots so you can schedule in everything you want to do that day, between 5am and 11pm. This has really helped me to see where I’ve been spending my time and has been encouraging me to stop procrastinating and to instead use every hour as perfectly as I can.
It also means I can see when I’m maybe spending only 1 hour with my family and 12 hours working, or when my day is taken up with no time for me. If you haven’t got a planner yet, I urge you to get this one. If anything is going to keep me on track this year and to help me find to find the balance in life, its this planner.
