Welcome to ‘What Mama Wore’, a new weekly feature on Life Unexpected where I share with you my style journey and also my mission to become more confident in front of the camera.
What Mama Wore #3 – Relaxed Shirts and Denim Skirts
I thought that as time went on, I would find it easier to do this post. But, every week when that camera is pointed in my direction I feel so nauseous. I hate how I look on camera and I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing with my face. Out of the 3 pictures that are in this post, there were probably about 50 taken. Is there such a thing as a class or a course for having your picture taken? If so, I’m in!
As soon as I see a camera, it’s almost like my body gives up. I forget how I’m supposed to hold myself. I slouch and my twist my body in the weirdest way and don’t even get me started on my facial expressions. Aitan managed to capture at least three ‘natural’ looking photos of me amongst the other 47 ‘what on earth do you look like’ photos. But there are 48 weeks left of this year, so surely by then I’ll become more confident in front of the camera. Fingers and toes crossed!
Anyway…lets actually talk less about me being rendered useless in front of a camera and more about my favourite outfit of the week.
Outfit Of The Week
Little fact about me, I hate wearing jeans. Which is odd because I wear them so much in Winter and they’ve been featured in my last two ‘What Mama Wore’ posts. But, when I’m at home I never, ever wear jeans. Only if I’m leaving the house. If I’m about the house, working or just being at home, I always wear either skirts or dresses. My go to is normally a really comfy denim skirt which I love to team with a lose fitting, comfortable blouse:
Denim Skirt (or suede skirt)
I love, love, love this denim skirt. It’s from New Look but I also have one in a slightly darker shade, that looks almost the same, from Topshop! It’s so comfy to wear and I think teamed with a blouse looks really smart/casual. I’ve been wearing this a lot with tights and ankle boots lately, but I think it looks so much better when the weather is warm, paired with a gorgeous pair of sandals.
You can find this skirt here: Topshop Denim Skirt
Another wardrobe go to of mine is blouses and shirts. I bought this white blouse from Topshop a little while ago. The relaxed feel of this blouse is so lovely and I love that it’s loose fitting so you can tuck it into jeans or a skirt. I tend to wear lots of high waisted bottoms because they suit my shape better. I find that tucking tops in accentuates my figure a lot more. I’m also little bit addicted to blouses. I have this one in three colours and few other similar styles in a whole rainbow of colours. My favourite thing about them is that you can wear them really casually with denim, like above, or you can dress them smarter for work or an event.

I can’t wait until spring comes, so I can actually wear this out and about again. It’s such a comfortable outfit and I hate having my legs covered up with trousers.
I love wearing this skirt with a whole range of t-shirts and blouses. It also goes so well teamed with a gorgeous pair of sandals. The perfect outfit for Spring? Yes. Now if only the season would come around faster.
