NETFLIX TOP WINTER PICKS

NETFLIX TOP WINTER PICKS

The long rainy and cold Winter days, are the perfect excuse to stay inside and binge watch our favourite TV shows. My Netflix account gets used so much more in the Autumn/Winter months. It’s the time of year that I love to put on a film and snuggle up by the fire with my family.

If you don’t fancy going outdoors in the rain, but aren’t sure what to watch, check out our ‘Netflix Winter Top Picks‘. All you need to do is grab some blankets and snacks and schedule in some family snuggle time or some much needed ‘you’ time.

1. The Crown

I watched one episode of The Crown and now I’m officially hooked. The Crown is a drama series set in the 1940’s and is perfect to watch alone or with your other half. This gripping, Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of our now Queen, Elizabeth II. The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of our queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI.

The series gives you an insight into the real life struggles of the crown and the Queen herself. From marraige decisions, to dealing with the death of her father, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries. You can watch the entire first season on Netflix right now. For those of you who can’t stop watching, a second season is already promised and being created as we speak.

2. Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is such a heart-warming series to watch. I used to watch it when I was younger and always dreamt that when I became a mum, I’d have a relationship like Lorelai has with her daughter Rory.

Gilmore Girls is an american drama/comedy based around family and friendship and is perfect for binge watching alone. Set in a charming, small town in Conneticut, Gilmore Girls follow headstrong 30 something, single mum Lorelai and her teenage daughter Rory. Lorelai owns the towns bed and breakfast alongside her best friend Sookie. Her well-off parents always have something to say about Lorelai’s rebellious life and have more in common with Lorelai’s teenage daughter Rory, who has high hopes of going off to Yale University. The series follows this mother/daughter team as they navigate life’s up and downs in the cooky town they live in.

After many years break, Netflix are hosting a new and final series of Gilmore Girls, following them some years later. I’m still catching up on the old series, which has just been made available on Netflix. But, ‘A Year In The Life’ looks like a must watch for all Gilmore Girls fans.

3. Beat Bugs

The third show in our ‘Netflix Winter Top Picks’ is Beat Bugs. Beat Bugs follows the lives of five best friends – Crick, Jay, Buzz, Kumi and Walter, as they live out their childhood adventures in an overgrown suburban backyard.

The show will be loved by both adults and children in your family. Created by Josh Wakely, tells uplifting and life-affirming stories, filled with hope and melody. Each half-hour episode follows the five best friends as they band together, exploring and learning about their universe. Each episode features a different song by The Beatles. The song acts as a basis for the adventures of the young bugs.

In total, the show incorporates more than 50 songs from the Lennon/McCartney ‘Northern Songs’ catalogue, all of which are covered by famous artists. The second season has just come out, so you’ve got plenty to keep you occupied this Winter. Also, don’t forget to check out our hilarious ‘Youtube‘ cover of the theme song.

4. The Little Prince

The fourth of our ‘Netflix Winter Top Picks’ is also one for the entire family. The Little Prince is a story for children, but written for grown-ups. Based on a book, the different levels of this beautiful storyline provides both pleasure and food for thought for all ages.

This enchanting must-watch film, follows a little girl who is being bullied by her ambitious mother, into prepping for a top private school. They move into the school’s catchment area, and the mother draws up an impossibly gruelling homework and activity wall chart – which depresses the girl greatly. The little girl finds herself befriending her wacky eccentric next door neighbour: the Aviator. The Aviator keeps a semi-functioning aircraft in his back garden and entrances the little girl with his memories of The Little Prince. This captivating tale is a must watch for all families.

5. The Originals

The final show in our ‘Netflix Winter Top Picks’ is The Originals. Not everyones cup of tea, but I can’t not include The Originals. It is hands down my favourite show of the moment and my biggest guilty pleasure.

Fan of The Vampire Diaries? Then you’ll love the story of The Original vampires in this spinoff series. It’s not one for children to watch, but it’s perfect for nights in with friends, for couples or to watch alone. Now in it’s third season and still reigning strong, the show follows the Original family who all despise and dispute with each other, yet still try to prove that blood is thicker than water.

Do your partner or friends think Vampire Diaries is a bit too girly? I can assure you’ll they’ll prefer the gorier Originals. It doesn’t focus too much on the ‘love’ elements like Vampire Diaries, but explores the depth of families, friendships, betrayal, loyalty and much, much more.

We hope you loved our top Netflix Winter picks and find the time to enjoy some of these shows with your loved ones. Don’t forget to let us know which ones you enjoyed the most!

What are your top picks from Netflix for this Winter? Are there any shows you’d recommend?
