Review PlayFoam Pals: We’re so excited to announce that we’ve just become ambassadors for Learning Resources. Learning Resources is one of my absolute favourite websites for buying fun but educational learning toys for kids. If you haven’t checked them out before, I urge you to do so. They are amazing!
Over the next few months we’ll be sharing some of our favourite ‘Learning Resources’ toys that we use for our pre-schooler. The first thing that we’ve been sent to review is a new collectable series of toys called ‘Playfoam Pals’.
If you haven’t heard of Playfoam Pals yet, they are the newest, hottest fun collectable that is fast becoming all the rage for kids. I don’t know of any kid who doesn’t love a collectable ‘surprise’ toy, but Playfoam is definitely my favourite series yet. It’s not only super fun but it’s totally unique and educational too.
Playfoam Pals are basically little egg shape pods that are filled with playfoam, a type of moulding foam. In the centre of each pod, a different animal pal is hidden. The best part about this collectable? Both the animals and the playfoam can be played with in so many different ways!
We were sent four Playfoam Pals to check out. Evie could not wait to open the pods to see which animals were hidden inside. In total there are 12 playfoam pals to collect. Inside her pods Evie found ‘Stretch’ the giraffe, ‘Jojo’ the kangaroo and two of ‘Robbie’ the racoon.
At first Evie was really disappointed to get two of the same, but she is kindly going to donate one to her cousin, who is also going to start collecting them.
Inside each pod there is also the Playfoam and a little collection sheet, which you can use to identify the name of each ‘pal’ you have and to where you can also learn some fun animal facts and educational insights. Evie’s particular favourite so far was;
Pandas eat so much bamboo that they can poop up to 40 times a day.
When you have discovered your animal, it’s time to have fun with the Playfoam!
3 Amazing Facts About Playfoam:
If you’ve not heard of Playfoam before, you’re about to fall in love with it. It’s officially my new favourite ‘creative’ play item. It has definitely been designed with parents in mind as it’s ‘messy’ play but without the mess! Here are some reasons its wonderful…
- Playfoam has a non-toxic formula and it’s safe for children as young as 3
- Playfoam is a unique mess free product that will only stick to itself and not to hands, hair, clothes or carpet.
- It never dries out so it can be used time and time again
What Can You Do With Playfoam Pals
There are so many fun things you can do with both the Playfoam and the Playfoam Pals. Firstly, kids can customise their Playfoam animals. The heads and bodies of each animal pops apart so that they can be mixed and matched during play.
Then there is the Playfoam itself. The Playfoam can be used to sculpt nests, beds and other props for the animals to play on.
Or, your kids can let their imagination run wild and use the Playfoam to build structures, to mould other animals, to create shapes or to use as part of other learning games.
Our Thoughts On Playfoam
I really love toys that are fun but educational and Playfoam is definitely that. Not only has Playfoam really been encouraging Evie’s creative streak, but I’m also so impressed with how much you can do and learn with this foam.
It’s squishy, it’s squashy, it’s sensory, but it’s also really easy to use for educational purposes. We’ve been using it to mould letters and numbers, which is reinforcing Evie’s learning of these. We’ve also been using it to mould shapes and animals and it’s also been really helping to further develop Evie’s fine motor skills.
Evie absolutely loves Playfoam…
She has been using Playfoam non stop since she first opened her pods. We’ve even been taking a couple of pods on the go with us, so she can play with it in the car or while we’re waiting for food in restaurants/cafes.
We’ve also added some to our ‘Busy Box’ so she can play with it as part of structured activity time (you can read more about our ‘Busy Box’ here).
At the moment she will happily sit there for hours playing with her Playfoam Pals. We definitely have plans to get some more of these collectibles. Evie is determined to get the whole collection, including the rare ‘golden’ pal that is available. However, she is really hoping to get Peanut the Elephant and Roary the Lion next!
Where You Can Find Playfoam Pals
Playfoam Pals are suitable for ages 5-10 and you can find them on the Learning Resources website. You have the choice between a pack of two priced at £6, or a pack of twelve priced at £35. For all the things you can do with the Playfoam, I think it’s more than worth the price.
There are also other Playfoam kits on the Learning Resources website, that don’t include the pals. They’re definitely worth checking out if you’d prefer Playfoam without the collectibles.
