I had a seriously nostalgic parcel arrive this week. It was meant for Evie, but honestly, if you are a 90’s child you would appreciate it way more than your kids. Guess who’s back?
Polly Pocket Is Back
The parcel itself was a true flashback to the 90’s, the era where these toys were most famous. The parcel really made me regret not holding onto my old Polly Pockets. I wish I did so I could now give them to my daughter.
Inside the box was some of my favourite sweets from the 90’s (flumps), two Polly Pocket minis from the new 2018 collection and a USB that was, in true 90’s style, disguised as a tape.
Did you know that it’s been 30 years since Polly Pocket first launched? That makes me feel so old. And, back in the day the micro-doll went on to sell over 10 million compacts! How crazy is that? I can vouch for the fact that I had a whole box load of Polly Pockets. Every Christmas and birthday I got at least two more.
Toy company Mattel is behind the relaunch of this 90’s classic kids toy. One thing I love is that they’ve completely updated Polly for the 21st century girl, but at the same time they’ve tried really hard (and they’ve succeeded) to keep hold of her heritage.
Polly Pocket – Tiny Pocket Places
We were sent two of the ‘mini’ Polly Pockets to try out. These are going to be called ‘Polly Pocket, Tiny Pocket Places’. Don’t fear though, regular sized Polly Pockets are also going to be available as well as a couple of ‘larger’ toys. I know what I’m getting my little girl for Christmas!
Just like there used to be, there is a surprise in every compact. Each Polly Pocket comes with three accessories and a micro figure. Every compact opens to reveal a fun theme with unexpected surprises and reveals.
One difference I really love is the way the micro figure now connects to the base. Remember how you used to have to try and stick the feet of your figure into those really tiny holes? This time the dolls have a magnetic smart stick. This means that they can stand wherever you want them to!
We were sent the Polly’s Picnic and Lila’s Closet compacts to try out. But, there will be six miniature compacts in total to collect. The other four include; Shani’s Camping Trip, Polly’s Aquarium, Lila’s Ballet Studio and Shani’s Concert.
All of them are so perfect for on the go adventures and I cannot wait to see my little girls imagination flourish even more, with her new pocket friends.
Polly’s 21st Century Adventures…
The relaunch also includes lots of 21st Century updates. Firstly, Polly has a new ethos; ‘Tiny Is Mighty’. Polly is often told she is “too little” to do the things she wants to do. But Polly proves what every kid already knows…that being little isn’t a limitation, it’s her greatest strength.
To showcase this new ethos, Polly Pocket has a new really fun animated series that your kids will love to watch online. The series follows Polly and her friends as they embrace big adventures in a shrunken size, thanks to Polly’s magic locket.
This series is a great way to introduce all the new character to your little ones and will help to inspire their own adventures with Polly.
Polly Pocket hits the shelves again in September. The Polly Pocket ‘Tiny Pocket Places’ compacts start from £4.99 and are suitable for kids aged 4+. The larger miniature compacts will also be available from September and they have some really cool, on-trend themes, such as the new Flamingo Floatie compact – a flamingo-themed pool party you can fit in your hand!
