Happy New Year everyone!
I can’t believe we’re almost a week into 2018 already! Are you really excited about this year? I am incredibly excited about this year. I actually feel like I might burst I’m that ready for it. I’ve really hit the ground running this week and my motivation doesn’t seem to be waning yet. I have such an amazing feeling about 2018, one that I’ve never had before for any other year. I’m planning on grabbing my career by the horns and want to turn it into my most awe inspiring year yet.
Although I haven’t sat down and set any resolutions yet, I do have lots of new habits that I’ve been seriously throwing myself into. I want to feel fresher, healthier and more awake, so I’ve been aiming to drink two litres of water every single day (I used to do this and it seriously helps with so much). I’ve also started doing a 5 Minute Morning ‘Wake Up’ Workout daily and I’m finding myself so much more productive and energised because of it.
One thing I am going to do is write a #LittleLoves post more frequently. It’s such a lovely, positive post to write every week and always encourages me to read more, listen to more music and to be more creative. So, lets get onto my #LittleLoves for this week.
RULES OF MAGIC, A MAKEOVER AND SO MANY CLOTHES #LittleLoves
This week has been all about hiding from Storm Eleanor, blogging makeovers, reading the most beautiful book, working out and sorting through oh so many clothes:
Rules Of Magic – The top of my Christmas wish list this year was ‘Rules Of Magic’. I’ve wanted to read this book for a little while now and kept seeing reviews of it crop up online. One of my favourite films of all time is Practical Magic which stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. It was a childhood favourite and I loved the book equally as much as the film. Recently the beautiful author of Practical Magic wrote and released the ‘prequel’ called Rules Of Magic.
I never seem to find much time to read, but this year I’m on a mission to shut my screen at least 45 minutes before bed time and to read a portion of a book. I finished this book this week and I cried like a complete baby at the end of it. It’s so incredibly written, in a way you feel so intertwined with the characters.
The characters are 3 siblings; two sisters and a brother, who are witches descendant from a long line of ‘Owens’ witches. You follow them from childhood right until they’re old and watch as they deal with the own family curse, the curse being, whoever they fall in love with will die. The book is beautiful, tragic, gripping, detailed, wonderful and so magical. It’s very much worth adding to your must read list. I’m so sad I’ve finished it and wish it went on for a lot longer.
Star Wars – I’m a freelancer so didn’t get much of a Christmas break. One thing my partner and I did try to do was squeeze in at least one date night during the Christmas period. We actually only managed to do that this week and both had a rare quiet evening where both our businesses had a down period. We headed straight out to the cinema to catch the new Star Wars.
If you haven’t seen it yet, I won’t give you too many spoilers. But I will say, it’s so much better than the last film. It’s slow in places but I love how they’ve set it up so the saga will continue, only with a new lease of characters. It was nice to see some old faces as well and I already can’t wait to see the next instalment.
Charlie Cunningham – I am so rubbish with music at the moment. I really want to discover some new playlists and artists. If you have any suggestions, please, please drop them below!
I have been listening to a lot of Charlie Cunningham this week though. I love listening to his music late at night. I normally lighting some candles, put on his playlist and spend half an hour writing a story I hope to one day release. I really adore Charlie Cunningham’s voice. If you’re looking for something emotive, but calming to listen to, definitely give his music a try.
Workout Routine + Blog Makeover – Life Unexpected has had a makeover. I am planning some HUGE things for this blog for 2018 including some amazing new features and brand collaborations. I really wanted to step away from my old branding and make Life Unexpected a fresh, bright place for busy mums to come to.
This year I’m going to be focusing a lot more on helping busy mums to find more of a balance and to get a healthier, more fulfilled lifestyle. I’ll be featuring a lot more posts on style and health in 2018 and will also be a lot more prominent on YouTube.
I’ve started off the health section by creating a ‘5 Minute Morning Wake-Up Workout‘. If exercise is something you want to do a lot more of this year, but you just don’t have the time, then I really hope this will be helpful.
So Many New Clothes – One thing I’ve never really mentioned before on Life Unexpected, is my complete addiction to clothes shopping. I’ve always been a little bit shopping mad but I’ve never been particularly stylish. This year I’m really challenging myself to step outside of my comfort zone and to really find my style and who I am when it comes to clothing.
I’m launching a new weekly feature on Life Unexpected which will likely be titled ‘What Mama Wore’ or ‘What Chloe Wore’. I’m not saying that any of you are going to love what I wear, but I’m hoping it’s going to really help me to build my confidence.
I know I’m a blogger who puts my life out there, but in reality I am incredibly shy and conscious. I’ve always battled with what I look like and who I am, but in the last few months (maybe it’s because I’m approaching 30), I’ve really been working on trying to accept and love who I am. This year I want to stop hiding behind dark, dull clothing and step out of my comfort zone into bolder and brighter pieces, that I’ve always loved the look of but been too afraid to wear.
Rainy Day Activities – Storm Eleanor has given us a huge excuse to spend more time indoors this week. We’re very much an outdoors family and rarely spend days inside. But I’ve actually really loved doing just that this week.
I did see quite a few people online asking what people do with their kids on rainy days. I too often need a lot of inspiration and sometimes really struggle to find things to do when we’re bored or we’re stuck indoors. But, I did write a post called ‘5 Rainy Day Activities For Your Pre-Schooler this week. I really wanted to share some of the things we do, just in case they help others who might need a little inspiration. I’d love for you to check it out if you need a few more playtime ideas. Let me know if you have any go to activities as well!
