“What I like about film and photographs, is that they capture a moment that has gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
How is it August already? It feels like a couple of weeks ago that I was sat on a rooftop in St. Ives watching the New Year fireworks go off. It seems like last week that it was February and I was hopping on a plane to Cape Town to meet my boyfriends family for the first time. It feels like yesterday that it was March and it was Evie’s birthday and she was blowing out her 3rd set of candles.
One thing that makes me feel a little bit emotional is how fast time goes. I always wish it would slow down and when I think back to events and the build up to them and how they’re suddenly over in a whirlwind, I realise just how precious time is.
I love to capture moments. My hard drive and laptop is full of video snippets and photos that will probably never see the light of day but for someone who has such a fear of time, encompassing even a fraction of time in a photo or video is so magical.
Recently I’ve stumbled across a brand new linky called ‘Snapshots & Scenes’. It only launched last month and I absolutely love the idea behind it. To join in with ‘Snapshots & Scenes’ you simply make a short video of your month and memories or you can create a blog post full of pictures of your favourite ‘snapshots and scenes’ from the last month.
It seems like the perfect place for my unused photos and video snippets to see the light of day. Plus it’s an amazing opportunity to get creative with video, something that lately has really been exciting me. So, without further ado…here is my go at a video for ‘Snapshots & Scenes’ this month.
July was such a beautiful month, despite having a crazy amount of work we made so much time for friends and family. We visited places in our home county that have been on our bucket list for so long, watched my best friend marry the love of her life and spent a good amount of time with sisters and cousins, growing bonds and enjoying family time. Here’s a few of my favourite photos:
I wrote a post about Kynance Cove here. It’s such a gorgeous place and is so close to my house. For some reason I have never been before and I’m truly kicking myself. We’ll be coming back for many a picnic and camping session from now on.
The water was unbelievably blue and apparently when the tide out there are huge caves here to explore.
I finally got some pictures of me and Evie. We never, ever have photos together. It inspired me to start a new monthly series called ‘Her and Me‘ to try and encourage me to be in more photos with her and not just be behind the camera.
We also got a rare ‘whole’ photos of us. How good was this day out? AND we made a little youtube video too. It was the most relaxing day trip out, I wish all outings could be this smooth.
I mean really…how stunning is Kynance Cove? I wish I could live right where I took this photo.
The Wedding Of Mr & Mrs Jenkin
Another magical moment this month was the wedding of Mr and Mrs Jenkin. I’ve known Becki since I was 8 years old. We’ve watched each other grow and we’ve watched each other cross off so many milestones. Becki was always the mum of our group at school and getting to see her marrying her best friend was such a beautiful moment.
Evie also got to play with Oliver, one of my other best friends sons. There is only a couple of weeks between them in age and they’ve known each other since birth. I absolutely adore what Oliver is wearing.
Aitan and I are doing so well on getting couple pictures and family pictures lately. This is the first month in the whole 18 months we’ve been together that we’ve actually remembered to take pictures of us and not just the food we’re eating or the places we’re at.
I also managed to capture a photo of me with two of my best friends, Megan and Vicky. Becki’s wedding was such a beautiful day and a bit of a reuinion. It’s so rare to get all of us under one roof because we’re all always so busy. Seeing us all so grown up, some of us married, some of us with kids, some of us with houses, really made me cherish these girls who have been in my life for the entirety of it. We’ve watched each other blossom from kids into women and now we get to do the same with our own children.
Cousin Time At Paradise Park
I really regret not getting my camera out more on my ‘annual’ trip to Paradise Park with Evie’s cousin Amelia. These two absolutely adore each other and it’s so cute watching them play.
I was so impressed at how confident Evie was with the animals. She was not afraid to go up and pet them or feed any of them herself. She has grow up so fast and I love seeing how determined and adventurous she is.
Dinner At Porthminster Cafe
Another highlight of the month was getting to meet the rest of Aitans family. I met his Dad’s side when we visited Cape Town in February, but his mums side came down for a week recently and stayed in St. Ives, literally in the house next door.
We went for dinner at the Porthminster Beach Cafe where half of the table actually work and the food was insanely amazing.
St. Ives is such a small town and this beach cafe is where we spend most of our time (literally), so it was really nice to be able to share it with Aitans family and to go with such a big group.
I’m so used to these views because I see them everyday of my life, but sometimes, the sky does something beautiful like this and it really makes you stop and appreciate where you live. It’s such a beautiful town to call home and I feel so grateful to get to live here.
We made the most of having a huge group of people and got the restaurant to order us in a massive lobster. It was huge and went down a treat with the whole table.
Everyone had such a fun and beautiful evening, drinking beautiful cocktails and wines and eating the most stunning food. I wish every night could be like this.
Snapshots & Scenes – August
So…that was some of my July. Not even a portion of it. It’s made me realise I need to take my camera around a lot more. I’m really having fun playing around with capturing footage and editing videos at the moment, so I have a feeling this linky is going to be my new favourite. We’re going to Venice this month and I’m really inspired to capture some creative footage of our holiday.
I’m nowhere near a pro at filming, but it’s something I’d love to start investing some serious time in. I’ve been looking up courses for videography and I’m going to be purchasing a much better camera and editing suite.
If there are any online courses you know of or could recommend, do let me know in the comments below. I’ll see you next month for my next installment of Snapshots & Scenes!
