I can’t believe I haven’t done a #LitteLoves in a few weeks now. I love joining in with this linky every week and sharing my loves and positivity from the week, but I’ve been totally swamped lately. I’ve had what seems like hundreds of other deadlines with work. That coupled with Mothers Day, going away for a few days to the beautiful Careys Manor in the New Forest and all the disruptions from the snow, I feel like I’m only just getting back on top of things.
This week has been amazing though. I’m so ready for Spring and the sunny days and hints of warmth have got me really excited for the next season. Todays post is all about newness and getting ready for Easter and Spring. So, lets get onto this weeks #LittleLoves.
Spring Clothes, New Books And A New Vlog #LittleLoves
This week has been all about the ‘new’ things’. I have some new books to read, some new Spring clothes and we’ getting my book order and feeling very ready for Spring:
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine –
I finally finished Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. I have to admit, I didn’t LOVE this book, but I really did like it. It was so incredibly written and very unpredictable. I was rooting for Eleanor so much throughout this book and I actually liked how they ended it. I won’t give you any spoilers, in case it’s on your list to read. But it was nice to have a book with a ‘unique’ ending for a change. The reason I didn’t love this book, is because I’m a bit emotionally rubbish with books that are quite ‘real’. I found the book hard to read in places, just because I am very emotionally sensitive. I much prefer to read fantasy books, because at least if anything happens, it doesn’t feel real.
The Bear And The Nightingale –
Now I’ve finished Eleanor Oliphant, I’ve made a start on a book that is a bit more me: The Bear And The Nightingale. I am so in love with this book already and I’m only partway through. It’s sort of like a Russian fairytale/folklore book, but its quite dark in places. It follow a young, wild girl called Vasya who lives with her wealthy family in a village at the edge of the wilderness in northern Russia.
For all of her life, Vasya and her sibling have been told stories of sorcery, folklore and the harsh ‘Winter King’. Tales of magic are frowned upon by the church, but for Vasya, she finds out that these are more than just stories. As the Winter winds blow and the snow falls, she alone can see and speak to the house spirits that guard her home. There is a growing force of dark magic in the woods and so far, Vasya seems to be the only one who is able to stop it. I’ve not yet finished this book, but every page is so beautifully woven. I am absolutely hooked to this story and can’t wait to see how it ends. This book really is a must read for 2018.
Black Panther –
We went to the Cinema last week to see ‘Black Panther’. Oh my, I absolutely loved this film. If you haven’t seen it yet, go, go, go! If you haven’t seen any of the other Marvel Films, you really don’t need to know anything about them before you watch this one. This is a very strong stand alone film. If you have seen the other Marvel Films, then you’re going to find this one very, very different.
I was pleasantly shocked and I have to admit that this is now up there with one of my favourite films from the whole Marvel Universe series. They made it seem so human and I loved how many different real life points it touched upon. I can’t wait to see the Black Panther return in the next Avengers film.
My Voice On Repeat –
Does this count for this section? Sorry, I haven’t listened to any new music or podcasts this week. But, I have listened to my voice 100,000 time while editing my new video. I’m going to be vlogging one a week now (going up to twice a week as soon as I can get more time) and I’m very nervous about it. I’m still getting to grips with being confident on camera, but I’m actually really enjoying making these films.
This week I started off with a ‘March Favourites’ roundup, where you can see my favourite ‘home’, ‘beauty’, ‘style’ and ‘kids’ products from the month. Sunday I will be putting up a spring/summer kids clothing haul and from now on I will be sharing lots of top tip posts, mostly for parents and work at home Mums! I’d love for you to subscribe to my channel!
Easter Bonnet –
Easter is coming so quickly now and being a blogger, I feel like you need to prepare for every season and event way in advance. Yesterday we did an ‘interactive Easter egg hunt’ with Evie for a brand. That post should be going up this week, so if you’re looking for an egg hunt with a difference, then keep your eyes out for that! One of the tasks for the hunt, was to make an ‘Easter Bonnet’. Evie has a nursery egg hunt coming up soon and they have asked us to bring in a decorated bonnet.
I got Evie to decorate hers during our own hunt and I think it looks so amazing! She did such a great job. I’ve never made an Easter bonnet myself before, so I have no idea what they’re supposed to look like, but I am very impressed with how creative she has been with hers. What do you think?
New Spring Clothes –
Last week we went on a very spontaneous road trip to Bristol to do some shopping. I picked up lots of new Spring clothes and my favourite thing of all is this polkadot dress from ‘Pull&Bear’. It is so lovely! I love how it synchs in at the waist slightly, I love the tie sleeves and I love the adorable little buttons that go all the way up from the bottom.
I can’t wait for the warmer weather now, so I can wear this out. In this picture I’ve teamed it with one of Evie’s new bags (on the other side of it is bright, fluffy pom poms), which you’ll see next week in my Spring/Summer kids clothing haul. I really want one of these bags for myself, minus the pompoms. If you know where I can get one, let me know!
Workouts and Reward Charts –
If you haven’t been on Life Unexpected for a while, I have two new posts I’m really excited about. The first one is all about working out at home. With the warmer months coming, I’m freaking out a bit at the idea of my body in a bikini.
I really don’t have time to go to the gym though, so I’ve been throwing myself into some really good home workouts. If you’re looking for some new workouts to do at home, do go and read my post ‘3 Workouts You Can Do At Home‘. They have been working wonders for me at the moment.
Another thing I’m really excited about is our new ‘Reward Chart’ for Evie. Evie is in the ‘threenager’ stage at the moment and we got a reward chart to try and help curb her tantrums and to also encourage her to stick to new habits (like getting dressed without a fuss and going to bed without a fuss).
We’ve had it for two months now and I wrote a post about it this week, because I can’t get over how much it has changed not only Evie, but also me as a Mum and how I am with her. It has been amazing! You can read all about it in my post ‘5 Reasons To Use A Little Humbug Reward System With Your Kids‘.
