Yesterday we had the most adorable little teddy bear picnic in the garden. I’ve been desperately waiting for the sun to come out so that we could do this and I can honestly say, it was really worth the wait.

We bought Evie a pretend tea set for her first birthday and recently she’s started walking around the house like a little waitress, holding her pretend cakes very carefully on their tray and offering everyone in the house a nibble. She then pretends to feed herself and her toys. As cute as this sounds, she does this on repeat about 50 times a day. She is really into tea parties at the moment I thought it would be really fun for us to have a proper picnic outside with her toys.

Here’s Evie doing her ‘would you like some cake?’ routine. It’s always hard to say no to her because she always looks so cross!

We had a pretend tea party in the garden at first as I was on wasp patrol, checking how many were passing us by and whether I should risk bringing the food out. Evie kept pouring tea for everybody and taking big dramatic swigs from her cup. I have no idea where she’s got this from. I don’t think I make these noises when I drink tea?

There were lots of ‘wows’ when I brought out the real food. It made my heart melt when she started to share her cake with her lamb. It wasn’t so cute when she fed him a strawberry though. Red strawberry vs. cream lamb = washing machine.

TEDDY PICNIC 3This is the longest Evie has ever sat still! We sat here for almost an hour just eating and playing. Evie refused to share her fruit with me but kept giving me her cake. Obviously I didn’t complain one bit about this! We enjoyed marmite sandwiches, battenburg, blueberries, strawberries, cheese and pineapple. Yummy!

TEDDY PICNIC 11This was the perfect afternoon. Evie’s personality is really shining through and she has such a beautiful imagination already. Minus a couple of tantrums, we ended up staying out in the garden until bedtime, playing in the paddling pool and making up games on the lawn. Evie kept including her toys in the games and at one point even pretended to change one of their non existent nappies! So adorable. One of the best parts about the picnic: it was wasp free!!

Have you been on any summer picnics this year? Do you have teddy bear picnics with your little ones?

Aaaw isn’t she adorable! Nothing beats a teddy bear picnic. We’ve had a few picnics this year, but the summer weather hasn’t been particularly suitable for them this season, I’m afraid 🙁

    • September 3, 2015 / 8:55 am

Thank you so much! 🙂 The weather this summer has been awful hasn’t it. 🙁 Hopefully we’ll have a great September. x

  2. September 2, 2015 / 6:14 am

My daughter LOVES picnics. We had one for her birthday recently but have had a few in the back garden and pretend ones inside are commonplace. It’s great to see Evie pretend playing. It’s so cute how they do that. Although be prepared to be ‘drinking’ lots of ‘tea’ and various foods in the future. Thanks for hosting #whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 8:57 am

They’re such a fun mummy/daughter bonding thing to do aren’t they. Haha thanks for the warning, it seems to becoming more and more every day. x

  3. September 2, 2015 / 6:30 am

We have had a few picnics this year, mostly on the beach where sand gets in your food though – this looks like the perfect solution

    • September 3, 2015 / 8:58 am

Oh crunchy sandy food is really not very nice haha. The amount of times I dropped my sandwiches on the sand when I was a child and my mum just brushed it off and gave it to me again, i know the taste all too well. x

  4. September 2, 2015 / 6:37 am

Really cute, my three adore teddy bears picnics too! #whatevertheweather

  5. September 2, 2015 / 7:25 am

Aww, that’s adorable! I remember my boys doing this, pulling out every plastic late, bowl and cup they could find.

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:01 am

Aww thank you so much. How cute that they loved them too. It’s definitely these moments that I’m cherishing more than anything. I know too soon she’ll be at an age where this is too babyish. x

  6. September 2, 2015 / 7:28 am

What a cutie, I should do this for A before the summer is out, one last shindig. Great pics, gorgeous girly. #whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:02 am

Thank you so much. Fingers crossed for sunshine for your picnic. x

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:02 am

🙂 Thank you Cheryl. It was so much fun. x

  7. September 2, 2015 / 8:30 am

Such a cute post! We love picnics too but sadly my kids are beyond the age of being happy with pretend food #WhatevertheWeather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:03 am

Ohhh I bet picnics are fun in different ways now though. I’m definitely making the most of these moments because I know all too soon it’ll be too babyish for Evie. x

Ah wow…how lovely, the sun is shining here at the moment, if it stays I think I might try this at lunchtime 🙂 #whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:04 am

I hope you managed to get out! 🙂 Hopefully next summer the sunshine will be much more consistent. x

  9. September 2, 2015 / 9:10 am

Oh this is so cute! My daughter adores tea parties for her bears as well – we’ve graduated to birthday parties where they all have to sit around and eat cake while wearing hats 🙂 #whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:04 am

Oh my gosh that must look so adorable!!! 😀 I can’t wait to do things like that. x

  10. September 2, 2015 / 10:31 am

The other day BB asked me during a pretend picnic at home what type of tea I’d like. When I said ‘with milk’ she said: ‘decaff?’ Priceless. That’s what I always drink! #whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:06 am

Oh my gosh how sweet! 😀 i can’t wait till that age when Evie is properly talking. It’s so cute she remembers. x

  11. September 2, 2015 / 11:34 am

This is just the cutest! Emma loves pretend food play too. She has a kettle that turns on and pretend boils and she pours it into cups and makes pretend food. I might have to get her a tea set after seeing this! xx #whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:08 am

This one wasn’t very expensive and it gets used so much too. It’s such a beautiful age isn’t it. It’s so strange watching your little baby develop her imagination every single day. x

Aww, it looks lovely! Gorgeous photos of little Evie too, especially the cute one when she’s offering cake! I know what you mean about the wasps, there are tons around this last few weeks, before it was fine. How lovely she is at sharing and playing with her toys, I’m impressed she sat still fir so long, Neither of mine do, even when food is involved! 🙂 x

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:11 am

They’ve just appeared so suddenly haven’t they and they’re all in that dozy state which makes them more likely to sting. I am terrified of wasps. Evie never sits still. But she is an eater. I think the fact that there was so much food is why she stayed for so long. x

  13. September 2, 2015 / 3:27 pm

What a lovely cute picnic together and I can’t believe you managed it wasp free!

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:11 am

I know! Oddly there were a couple hovering around our kitchen when we went back in the house. I am very grateful they didn’t interrupt our picnic. x

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:12 am

haha not very appetising at all. You should definitely get some. Ikea do lots of fruit and vegetables for really cheap. x

  14. September 2, 2015 / 5:32 pm

What a lovely afternoon! It looks like Eva had lots of fun – 1 is such a fun age as I feel like their little personalities just really shine through more every day! #whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:13 am

Thank you so much. It really does feel like that. You’re watching them develop their independent thoughts and it’s so strange to see. x

  15. September 2, 2015 / 6:22 pm

We use to do picnics almost every day last year. It was a great way for my son to get time outdoors before afternoon preschool.

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:14 am

It’s so nice to get some fresh air as well isn’t it. What a lovely thing to do before school x

  16. September 2, 2015 / 8:11 pm

Arrw.. Evie melts my heart. She is so cute sharing everyone a cuppa and cake. She is also aware that she is the one who looks after them by changing their nappy! Evelyn has a doll which I had made a doll size cloth nappy for her doll. She just loves changing it too. They want to be grown up so so fast! lol! #Whatevertheweather

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:15 am

Thank you so much. They really do want to grow up so fast don’t they. It’s so lovely watching them become independent but at the same time you want them to be your little baby forever. x

  17. September 2, 2015 / 9:07 pm

This is lovely 🙂 We’ve had quite a few picnics this year, the kids love them! Absolutely gorgeous photos. Thanks for hosting x

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:16 am

They’re such a great way to have to fun family time outdoors aren’t they. 😀 x

  18. September 3, 2015 / 8:26 am

Such a cute post, looks like Evie really enjoyed herself. I’m a massive fan of picnics and can’t wait until next summer when baby will be able to join in!

    • September 3, 2015 / 9:17 am

Aww you will love it when your baby will be able to join in. 🙂 Such great family fun x

  19. September 3, 2015 / 1:37 pm

We had a teddy bears picnic at the weekend. Tin Box Tot doesn’t sit still much but she did for this. It is so cute watching her doing exactly what Evie was doing – serving up cake to her teddies and forcing us to slurp pretend tea 🙂 #whatevertheweather

    • September 5, 2015 / 6:46 pm

It’s adorable isn’t it! It’s definitely moments like this we should relish. Watching them develop their imaginations and independent thought is so beautiful. 😀 x

I used to do this for my step daughter, she loved it. It’s great cheap, imaginative entertainment. Battenburg is one of my old favourites! I used to eat a whole one every week as a child. xx

    • September 5, 2015 / 6:48 pm

I LOVE BATTENBURG. I could easily eat one every day haha. x

  22. September 4, 2015 / 12:22 pm

We love doing teddy bears picnics! Amelia is so obsessed with feeding everyone so it tends to end up with me piled up with a tonne of play food whilst she eats the real stuff! Lovely photos x

    • September 5, 2015 / 6:52 pm

It’s so much fun isn’t it! Oh Amelia sounds so adorable. That’s so cute that she takes all the real food haha.x

  23. September 4, 2015 / 7:58 pm

What a gorgeous post. We have never had a real teddy bears picnic but often had indoor picnics with toy food and Annabelle’s lamb. It looks just like yours but with nearly 4 years worth of ‘love’, e.g. it needs a really good wash! 😉 x

    • September 5, 2015 / 6:57 pm

Thank you Beth! 😀 Aww how cute that Annabelle has a lamb too. Haha our lamb has had many washes now. Although Evie’s bedtime bear was swiftly hidden out of sight from these pictures because it is just gross!! You should definitely try a real one sometime. They’re such fun, plus it’s nice eating real cake for a change rather than chewing on plastic cake. 😀 x

  24. September 5, 2015 / 5:15 pm

Evie is adorable and clearly a girl with sensitivity to be offering and sharing her food there. A delightful Teddy bear’s picnic and lovely way to spend time outdoors, even better that the wasps stayed away, we have far too many appearing this week. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

    • September 5, 2015 / 7:01 pm

Thank you so much! She’s very sensitive. It was such a perfect picnic. Especially being wasp free. I’ve heard that Cornwall is having lots of issues with swarms of wasps and flying ants this week. The temperatures in the last couple of weeks have been perfect for breeding! Luckily we’ve only had a handful. I hope Coombe Mill doesn’t have any visits from the swarms. x

  25. September 7, 2015 / 7:11 pm

How lovely. I can honestly say the pay food is one of our most used toys, even now!

    • September 8, 2015 / 6:04 pm

Thank you Louise! It’s great isn’t it. I love watching them pretend it’s real. So sweet! x
