Winter Proofing Your Home

Have you started cosying up your home for Winter? This is my absolute favourite thing to do whenever Winter rolls around. I have to admit, I don’t really enjoy the Winter weather. When it’s blustery, icy and showery outside, I much prefer hibernating in my house and I make that even more appealing by turning our home into the perfect, cosy escape.

Winter Proofing Your Home

Now that Christmas is over and we have nothing left to distract us from the mizzly, January weather, I thought it would be the perfect time to share some of our Winter rituals and how we love to cosy up our home for the season. From ‘Hyging’ it up with a few extra home accessory’s, to making sure that our heating is on point, here’s some steps we love to take every year to Winter proof our home.

Winter Proofing Your Home

Step 1- The Snuggle Factor

It’s time to pull out the blankets! Who else loves snuggling on the sofa? Especially when it’s under blankets with a big mug of hot chocolate and good movie! One of our Winter rituals is ‘Friday night movie nights’. We have a basket that we always pull out in Winter and we fill it with the snuggliest, fluffiest blankets that we can find. My favourite thing about Winter, is using the weather as an excuse to curl up on the sofa with a giant blanket, some snacks and either a film, some games or a good book!

Step 2 – Lots Of Layers

There is something about Winter that makes me fall in love with comfy, slouchy clothing! How about you? One way we ‘cosy up’ our home is by stocking up on fluffy jumpers, soft loungewear and slipper socks! We have tiled floors downstairs so we all practically live in slipper socks during January and February.

Step 3 – Heating It Up

One thing I always do in Winter is check our boiler. Unfortunately, in the past decade I have lived in two houses which have both had boilers pack up in the middle of Winter! Have you ever washed your hair in ice cold water? It’s really not something I ever want to do again. It’s also super stressful to have your boiler pack up at such a busy time of year!

Luckily for us there are companies like Local Heroes around. Not only are they experts in boiler care but they also really care about their customers! Because they want us to have a worry free winter (with no unexpected large costs), right now they are taking care of us by providing unmissable boiler finance options that start from as little as £24.00 a month. So, if you need a new boiler – either planned or unplanned – they are there for you!

As someone who has had the stress of having a boiler pack up at the worst time (twice), I love that this option is there.

Local Heroes also have written a winter-proofing guide which shares 7 ways to get your house warmer in Winter! It’s such a great guide and really worth checking out if you want to make sure that your house is cosy, warm and very winter ready.

Step 4 – Cosy Candles

As a self-confessed candleoholic, I have to admit that our house is stockpiled with candles all year around. Although, we do love to add Winter scented candles and essential oils to our collection at this time of year. My favourite scent is pine!

Step 5 – Warming Treats

Are you a tea, coffee or hot chocolate person? In Winter I tend to always be attached to a warm cup of something and I love using the excuse of the season to try our new teas from our local tea supplier. My favourite at the moment is Rooibus!

Step 6 – Home Spa

Do you love having hot baths in Winter? We have a little basket in our bathroom that we fill with a whole variety of Winter scented bath bombs. It always feels like such a cosy treat. Honestly, nothing beats climbing into a hot bath after a chilly day outside!

So, how do you get your home ready for Winter? Do you have any Winter rituals you love to do?

Some great ideas here. I’ll have to show the Wife this post as I’ve never thought of creating a home spa but it sounds easier than I Thought it would be!
