The other night, I went onto Vinted to relist a few items that had been languishing unsold for a while, and for a second, I thought I was in someone else’s account.
All of the sizes of my items had changed. My dress that most definitely still says it’s a size 12 on the label now shows up as a size 16-18. My jeans that no longer fit me but did when I had a 32 inch waist, should now apparently fit me again according to Vinted’s new sizes. Hallelujah, it’s a miracle!
I haven’t been to the gym recently, nor visited a tailor, nor do I own a time machine, so what in the name of second hand clothes selling is happening here?
Why Vinted Have Changed the Sizes

Vinted have informed customers of why these changes were made, but most people – including me – missed the memo.
Apparently, it’s all part of a “standardisation” effort, aimed at making sizing clearer across brands and countries. In theory that sort of makes sense – we all know how ridiculous it is that a size 14 can be the perfect fit with one brand but leave us struggling for breath with another – but it also sort of doesn’t make sense.
Across countries? Vinted is an international business, so I get this might make their lives easier, but when was the last time you bought a jumper on Vinted from Lithuania?
It was supposed to make things simpler but it has been really messy, and people who use the app have been losing their minds. I mean, it’s annoying, I get it, but some people are really struggling to cope 😂🙄
The system has automatically updated all the listings (although they are telling people to check because it might not have worked lol), so people who listed something before the update now have to go back and check and edit everything they have listed. It’s confusing for buyers who aren’t aware of the changes too – especially if the size is listed as one thing but the image of the tag shows something different.
Nightmare!
New Size Chart
To make this easier for you, take a look at the new size chart showing the different between Vinted’s old sizes and their new ones:
| Vinted Old System | Letter Size | Vinted New System |
|---|---|---|
| XXXS / 2 | XXXS | XXXS / UK 0 |
| XXS / 4 | XXS | XXS / UK 2 |
| XS / 6 | XS | XS / UK 4-6 |
| S / 8 | S | S / UK 8-10 |
| M / 10 | M | M / UK 12-14 |
| L / 12 | L | L / UK 16-18 |
| XL / 14 | XL | XL / UK 20-22 |
| XXL / 16 | XXL | XXL / UK 24-26 |
| XXXL / 18 | XXXL | XXXL / UK 28-30 |
| 4XL / 20 | 4XL | 4XL / UK 32-34 |
| 5XL / 22 | 5XL | 5XL / UK 36-38 |
| 6XL / 24 | 6XL | 6XL / UK 40-42 |
| 7XL / 26 | 7XL | 7XL / UK 44-46 |
| 8XL / 28 | 8XL | 8XL / UK 48-50 |
| 9XL / 30 | 9XL | 9XL / UK 52 |
So what you now have is categories that cover a range of sizes, rather than items listed as one specific size.
I can see a lot of return requests going in until people get used to this.
What to do if Your Item Sizes Have Changed

If you have a lot of listings on there from before the size change, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you’ve got an evening of editing listings ahead of you.
You don’t need to panic, but you should go through and check your items are in the correct category. It will save you hassle later on if someone buys it by mistake.
Here’s a quick step by step guide that I followed the other night with my handful of listings:
- Go to ‘Profile’, then ‘Listings’, then click on the item and go to ‘Edit Listing’
- Go to ‘Size’ and manually select the right one (if it needs changing)
- Double check the rest of the listing, including the title, to make sure it is clear
- Repeat for your next listing
I do this anyway, but if you haven’t already, include a photo of the label from now on. That way people can see exactly what they are getting.
If you are a buyer rather than a seller, just take sizes with a pinch of salt for a while. Ask the seller a question if you’re not sure. It saves time and money rather than buying something that is now incorrectly sized due to the changes.
Try to See the Funny Side

While I understand that this will be temporarily disruptive, I am chuckling at some of the outrage I am seeing online.
So the listings are a bit messed up at the moment. You search for something in Medium and it’s pot luck what the app actually shows you. But it will resolve itself in a few weeks.
There is an emotional angle to this too though, I get that. It’s not nice for a woman to suddenly be told they’re a size 16-18 rather than a 12, but nothing has actually changed, has it? It might sting your pride a bit, but come on, you’re no different than you were yesterday.
So my advice is try to see the funny side. It’ll all come out in the wash!
