Truth or Dare Questions For Kids

Truth or Dare Questions For Kids

A while back I wrote an article about dares for kids – something to keep them entertained for a while when the weather is bad or if you need to fill some time. It was an idea I got from a friend.

This was something my little boy really took to, and it has now developed into something else: truth or dare.

I already have the dares sorted – you can check them out on the other article – and after many games of truth or dare, I have now come up with a pretty good list of kid friendly truth or dare questions, too.

So if you are struggling for inspiration when your child chooses ‘truth’, just pick a few of these, safe in the knowledge that they are tried and tested and designed to keep things light hearted.

I have tried to include enough variety so you can pick questions with simple answers for shy kids or those that are still quite young, or questions that can lead to longer stories for kids who are older or the more expressive children who like having an audience 🎭

You can use your own judgement to decide what to ask each child.

How To Play

Child Telling a Story

I know you know how to play truth or dare, but for kids, it helps to explain the structure and encourage them with their story telling skills. It also helps them understand that there’s no ‘wrong’ answer when they choose truth.

So, first you should explain that everyone will take a turn being the one who asks “Truth or Dare?”, and the one who has to choose, and either do the dare or give an answer.

I usually start as the person who asks “Truth or Dare”, and then the person who went last becomes the person who asks the question on the next turn. It works well like this because the kids get to see an adult do it first, and they can take it from there.

The only other rule is that no one has to choose anything they don’t want to. This is about fun, not forcing someone to do something they don’t feel comfortable with. So if someone keeps choosing truth, the other children aren’t allowed to pressure them into choosing dare next time.

That’s it. Once the game gets going they can usually manage on their own.

That said, if you want to encourage their story telling skills you can ask them follow up questions after they have answered:

  • How did that feel?
  • What did it look like?
  • What happened next?

Just simple stuff.

And obviously, the more enthusiastic you are the more it will encourage them to expand on their answer. They may even get a little creative with the truth, but that’s half the fun in a game like this. I would go along with it.

A little embellishment during a funny story never hurt anybody 😇😂
